VGA felt cleaning pellets?

Do we like vga felt cleaning pellets?? And/or do we like using a little oversized for cleaning carbon ring? They are not cheap so I want to see if they are worth buying

I have had better luck with them in the larger calibers (.30) vs. smaller (.224), mainly because on the larger jag is threaded all the way to the tip, whereas the smaller one is not, and the felt on the end doesn't want to stay put.

I've used both the regular felt, and the more aggressive ones that have bronze threads woven in. Combined with Kroil and JB, they do a pretty good job of getting things clean. That said, I'm not 100% convinced that it's more effective than a patch wrapped around an old brush, treated with the same Kroil/JB blend. It's a little less fussing about, but whether thats worth it to you is a personal choice.

Old fishermen never die, they just keep tying knots. (especially if they are cheap bastards) :)

I use cleaning patches tied to a brass jag, I use light fishing line and tie the patch around the grooves in the jag to hold it in place.

Push the patch and jag out the end of the muzzle just far enough to tie the patch at each groove in the jag.

You end up with more cleaning area and a tighter fit in the bore at a fraction of the cost.

But then again I'm so cheap when I break wind it sounds like a silent dog whistle.

I use them and like them, especially being able to twist the cleaning rod which causes the pellet to thread itself farther back on the jag and increase it's diameter for a snugger fit in the bore.
Good stuff.

I guess the next logical question is who sells them? I am having a hard time finding them in stock for some reason. Especially in 6.5

First, before someone gets a hernia looking for VGA pellets, it's actually VFG.

Brownell's advertises the largest inventory but at the highest prices. Champions Choice is less expensive but their inventory is limited to 22 and 30 caliber.

They're also sold as PatchWorm felt buttons - same exact thing. Priced like Brownell but they claim to at least know about the 6.5 here:

I think they're great for keeping the carbon ring under control. I have the aluminum two pellet adapter with nut and for the 30 BR screw a plain .338 pellet on followed by a 6mm then the nut. The 6mm eliminates any chance the adapter will hit the throat and lets me flare the front of the .338 for a tight fit in the neck. Screwed into a brass pistol rod it makes quick work of any carbon ring buildup.

Amazon carries some of them also as does Buffalo Arms....

Do we know why Brownells is out of stock in almost every single size?

Because it's Brownells and that seems to be the way they do business sometimes. If you've got a buddy with a FFL he should be able to get a significant discount.

They're more popular in Canada and the UK than the US. I had a "mate" in Scotland pick up a 500 count bag of the popular rifle sizes for me several years ago although he had to wait also. With postage, his VAT, and a bottle of Wild Turkey they cost me about the same price as Brownells but at least I got them.

There are folks who sell them on Ebay, all from the UK or Canada I believe. Some of them call them "felts" rather than pellets.

If you can wait a month I can send you some to try. I'm in Florida until the second week of April and the pellets are in PA. PM if you want.....
