Shooting my 6.5 creedmoor and 270 win. for primarily deer hunting, I’am grouping one inch are less at 100 yards, my 270 speed is 3100 fps., but the chronograph guys tell me my SD needs to improve. If I hit a deer with Barnes bullet with 3100 fps, that deer is going down.

SD and ES are pretty much meaningless at anything below 300 yards in a hunting rifle.

What bullet weight are you using in your 270. 3100 fps is pushing it for anything over 130 grains.

Again I'm concerned about the advice you are getting. Your SD is really not relevant at 300yds unless it's over 20 but even then it will depend on the target. A .277 140 gr GameKing drop is only different by ~1" at 300yds for a 100 fps ES.

Yes, hunters have been killing deer for decades with a 30/30 that is slower and has less energy than your 270 WIN. Many would believe the 270 to be overkill on deer. When I elk hunted in Colorado, the outfitter feed us 2 meals with elk he had killed. As we ate he told us that he respected our choices of "wiz bang magnum rifles but the elk we ate had all been killed with 30/30 he inherited from his uncle." I felt over gunned with a 338 win mag till I saw an elk on the ground.

It seems your trying to do things right. But I view chronograph gurus as snake oil salesmen. You have a big game rifle shooting under an inc, quit obsessing, just trust your targets.....and dead deer.

^^^^^ this is the truth, you rifle is more than adequate, worry about the other parts of the hunt, scent, getting in and out of the woods quietly, staying alert in a stand, control of excitement and making a good shot when the time comes.

Hunted for many years without a chrono. Heck, most of it was store bought ammo. Figured out point blank distance and zeroed for that. Didn't miss what I aimed at.
