Varminter stocks

For prairie dog shooting, I like the McMillan A3, heavy fill, with adjustable comb. It has the clamp type adjustment so it can be quickly dropped for cleaning. I have a spacer made that allows instant reset to the desired height. The angle on the stock bottom allows for elevation change. I use a lightweight front rest (the feet fit into shallow holes in the top) because we move every few hours, and have to tear down and set up again. The table comes apart without tools.

It's a 6BR, no turn neck, Stiller Predator V action, Krieger 8 twist, Jewell trigger, Nightforce NXS 8-32.

25 years ago I shot Schuetzen. Jim Feren won about nine years in a row. His rifle had the high comb butt stock. It had a wheel to lower and raise it, like an F-Class. He could take it off to clean.
That might be our answer here.

Cooper offers a stock called a "VarTac" (top one in photo). It's the most comfortable stock I've used from a bench. It's most appreciated after hours of heavy shooting. I was going to have several of my others changed out to it until I was told they would be glad to do so......for $650 each.

I do all of my prairie dog hunting off of a bench...... usually sitting in the back of a pickup. I shot my guns with the hunting stocks and bipods rear bags and I've also shot in my 1000 yard benchrest equipment.... 1 Shane St 1000 and 2 MBR trackers. I prefer shooting off front rest rear bags with the benchrest equipment. If I ever build another dedicated prairie dog gun I would use a short-range benchrest stock with a 3 inch wide forend and a sloped buttstock to Aid in quick elevation changes.

I don't like the screw adjustment. I have another PD gun, a McMillan HTR with that style of comb adjustment. It is too slow and too inconvenient to remove to clean. That's why my next gun had the clamp adjust.

about half of my varmint rigs have a thumb hole stock now, like xr 100 or boyds . it helps with wrist fatigue to be able to switch from a standard stock to a thumb hole when shooting over 500 rounds a day at varmints. works for me
