Varmint hunters!

Do any of you Prairie Dog or Rockchuck hunters use a laser rangefinder successfully? If so, tell us about it please.

I have tried a Bushnell and a Leica. Found that, for me, they were only good for bragging rights after the shooting was over (walk out to the remaining bits and laser the truck). I was unable to get reliable readings on a prairie dog or mound past 300 yards and I don't see any need a range finder for the close shots.

As Keith said, its very tough to range on individual dogs, I also used mine after the kill to range back to my truck. At the time I owned a Bushnell and it was good on large solid objects. I now own a Leica CRF-1200 and this unit is far and away better than my old Bushnell. But I pretty much use my Leica for long range shooting and ranging on reflective targets. I have not tried using my Leica on varmints yet.

I've got a Bushnell Elite 1500 7X26 that I'm very happy with. I scan w/ it for dogs then laser the mound. It works well for me out to 500 yds easily. I have lasered one out to 750 yds and got him too. The down side of these is they seem to get little purple spots on the lens w/ age, but still work fine.

I have been using a Bushnell the last 5-6 years ,its ok , a lot of times the mounds are hard to bounce back off of. Sometimes I laser a beter object close by--Gets you close enough. I am shure a killer range finder would do a good , and better job.
