Varmint bullets and helicopters

Its velocity that some times turns varmints in to spinning helicopters. Or are some brands of varmint bullet better than others out of a 204 ruger .

I have a bud, speed freak, who loves Blitz Kings.
Not happy if he doesn't achieve orbit. He regaled me with a squirrel story of a two track by a 4 strand. He would put some english on them and try to hang them on the barb on re-entry.

I have found if the are laying flat on the ground facing you, put said projectile under their chin. The hydraulic effect is better. Also will work when the are 180 the other way, aim for the little brown dot under their tail;-).

On the other hand some years back, a solid hit on ANYTHING close to them with a 416 will send them flying.

It has been my experience that the more fragile the bullet - the better the energy is transferred. It also needs a bit of mass to throw parts up high and away. The sintered bullets seem to be the most explosive - such as the Nosler lead-free ballistic tips or Barnes Varmint Grenade. The 40 V-Max and 39 Blitz King are very good leaded. Two days ago, I shot a hundred rounds of 32 V-Max at squirrels - then switched to 40 V-Max for another 100 rounds. The height and distance of splat was very noticeable - as usual. The lightest bullets like the 32's and such are great and really blow them up but I don't get the height/distance as with the 39's and 40's. I shoot thousands of each as my regular loads - along with the 39 Blitz.

I liked the 39gr TNT in my 20p, going around 3600 sure made a fine red mist. 32gr vmax going 4100 did a number on them, but not like the 39gr and the massive open point they have.

I try to go as fast I can, given the accuracy doesn't drop off. If I can keep just under the speed that the bullet will blow up in mid air, the bullet will stay together to give maximum transfer. Maximum Splat.

416 Be hard to see your hit thru the shock wave!nuclear-explosion-mushroom-cloud-lamp-xl.jpg

350gr Speer out of a 45/70 will also launch them quite a ways too.
I was told rabbits with a 45/70 was perfect. Just shoot them at 250 yards. You don’t even need to hit them. The round craters in and the shockwave stuns em and they fall in the crater.

Orrrr, just blow it by their nose, collapses both lungs, same effect without the divot which the farmers prefer.

Hunted with a Ruger #3 in 45/70 for years back when I could withstand the recoil.
Squirrels, turkeys lots of deers ended up in the freezer with that rifle.
And a few whistle pigs
