Varget with .22-250-.243?

Folks,
I've got a few pounds of Varget and I'm wondering if anyone uses it with 50 to 55 grain Nosler flat base bullets in .22-250? The rifle is a Ruger No.1V .
The .243 is a No.1a, I load Hornady 65 grain VMax for coyotes and for deer I have a bunch of Nosler 90 & 95 grain Ballistic Tips.
Thank you in advance for your time, help and consideration.

Varget should work very well in your 22-250. However I am using RL-15 in my 22-250 right now.
I do use Varget in my .243 with the lighter 65gr. v-max...but I use IMR4350 with 87gr. v-max.
I see in my reloading manuals that there are not loads listed for Varget with heavier bullets in the .243.
I'm getting very good accuracy with both loads for the .243.

In my experience, yes, both will work very well in both the 22 250 and 243 Win, the latter especially so with bullets 85 grains and under. Varget performed much the same as IMR 4064 in my rifles being interchangeable performance wise.

I've used Varget extensively with both 50 and 55 grain Nosler BTs when I had a 22 250 - 14" twist. The 50's shot a somewhat smaller groups but not enough to matter for varmint hunting. I would suspect, the flat base bullets would shoot as good if not better out to 300 yards.

In the 243 Win, 10" twist, Varget works very well for me with 85 Sierra BTHP's. I also used the 80 Sierra Blitz and 75 Vmax's with this powder, all performing quite well. I am not asserting that this powder won't work with your 90's and 95's, I just found that IMR 4350 shoots better with these heavier weight bullets. However, as always, make sure you use published, tested data from reliable sources for reloading.

I've used Varget in a few 22-250s with good results. Velocities were not as high as I hoped in one of them, but accuracy was there. In my Tikka T3lite, I'm using it along with 55 grain Sierra Blitz Kings for a MV of right at 3700 fps and excellent accuracy. Also using it in a Remington Varmint Special with 52 grain Bergers and it is shooting well. I get better results with the upper charges listed in the manuals.
I have used it in the 243 Win but always went back to IMR 4350 regardless of what bullet I was shooting.

Certainly not.
Maybe better known as the Battle of the Bulge. Fought in the Ardennes forest basically by the 101st Airborne.
Two days ago was the anniversary of the Malmedy Massacre, also tied into the battle of the Bulge, the Germans marched about 90 Americans and 150 Canadians into the forest and executed them. They sort of skip over this.
I never saw one thing in the news about it.
Fuck’em.
As a side note, Charles Durning the actor and Broadway star, was marched into that forest that day with the others. He actually escaped by running into the forest. As he showed in some Broadway performances, he really was light on his feet, even though physically he didn’t appear so.

Nosler,Sierra,Hornady,Barts,Speer 52-55gr bullets have all shot well using Varget in 1/2 dozen 22-250's for me. And the 40 gr Nosler BT is very accurate with it as well, lot of color from prairie dogs.

I run 36.0 Varget in my 12twist 22-250 with 55gr vmax at 3690fps. The barrel has atleast 1500rounds on it and still shoots very well with this load.
I would start lower and work up to that in your gun to be safe. I’ve shot mine up to 36.5 with no pressure, but it liked this load the best. The throat in my barrel is worn about .030”, so I have the bullets seated out a bit.

I knew a guy that was in the 101 in Bastone. Band of brothers was about E co. he was in D co. so it was the same deal. It pissed him off when they said Patton saved them. I have best accuracy with imr 4350 and 60 gr. ballistic tips in my 22-250. Doug

My best speed and accuracy was alway's with IMR 4064. Never tried
Varget. Of course, Varget did'nt exist back then.

Like others stated. 36 gr Varget with 55 gr V-max in the 22-250 is a no brainer.

243win with 65 gr V-max Hodgdon shows 41 gr Varget as MAX. If you're using a chronograph then you'll have a better idea about max charge weight for this combination of components.

243win with a 24" bbl spitting out the 65 gr V-max should be safe op to 3,650 - 3,700 fps.

Varget in the 243win is good up to 80 gr bullets,.. but I personally use H-4831sc with 80 gr to 107 gr bullets... thus H-4350 / H-414 / H-4831sc is a better choice burn rate wise for 80 gr and heavier bullets.

There are many powder that will work in the 243win with 65 V-max... practically anything from H-4895 / Varget burn rate to H-4350 / RL-16 burn rate.

Both of my rifles are 1-12 twist and I shoot 55gr Sierras in both. One likes 36gr of Varget the other prefers 4064 over Varget by a slim margin.
