Varget, single pound with no lot no? Am i missing it?

When compnants were hard to find a few years ago i was having a hard time finding varget, and ended up with individual pounds from a few different lots. One of the 1lb containers i have does not have a lot no in the same location as the others, nor can i find one anywhere on it. I have been using varget for a while an dhave no idea how old it is, did hogdon have a different place they used to mark it? Did they use a stick on tag like they do on the 8lb kegs? Maybee that came off? I am not overly concerned, but i am curious what happened here

Will prolly never know. Maybe missing tag, QC asleep Orrrr? Don't make much difference now does it.
However, imo, mfrg rules for any powder co. definitely would want to be able to track batch/lots.

op,
It's a Hodgdon Product.

Your Varget burn rate is somewhere between 4198 or 4350......but it's temperature insensitive!!!!

I am pretty certain that at one time in the past, I had many 1lb. lots of Varget that were lot marked with a sticker that was basically a store price sticker. I seem to remember that it might have been stuck on the bottom. If you can't find a lot number, it was probably marked that way and has come off, or was removed. Treat it as a unique lot number and work the load up.

The old 1 pounders had an orange sticker attached to the bottom of the plastic container. The newer ones have it printed on the label.

When your powder measure gets low. And you reach and get another pound of a different lot aren't you mixing powder. Been doing this for years for my hunting rifles.

When my powder measure runs low , I do not reach and get another lot number of the same powder, and I gather most people don't, and you aren't supposed to. However, you are correct, doing that would be "mixing". I have mixed, but not without working the load up again, as would most people. You got lucky in that your powder lots have been consistent. Maybe that luck will continue.

My newer Varget 1lb'ders have the lot number printed on the left side of the CAUTION label. Currently I have 1031312-5041.
