Yes, it does sound like Hodgdon is becoming a monopoly, which shouldn't be allowed. I have mostly given up reloading due to costs of materal especially powders. I've been a reloader since 1965, and it use to be a fun hobby, but not now. :(
Still cheaper than factory ammo unless we are talk bulk 223/5,56.

I started loading the same year and % wise is not any more expensive now than then. Just more fun now that things have been learned and applied.
Sorry you have mostly given up. Keep on and enjoy things. Whatta Hobby!
