varget 243 75 gr vmax

Hello there , I don't suppose any one has data for varget using the 75gr vmax pill in 243 ???

I know they have the min and max stated but was curious to what charges you guys been doing a long with the fps for each ..

I'm really stuck to decide what powder to settle with as I'm used to factory ammo pushing out 3580 fps .

I would be happy to be in the 3300-3500 range .

Quite frustrating as I'm new to reloading ..

Cheers guys

Powders that will work very well with the 75 grain VMax in the 243: Varget or IMR 4064.

Either one is a good choice for this bullet weight in the 243.

You should not get frustrated, the 243 is one of the easiest cartridges to reload for.

I hesitate to quote a specific powder charge since results can vary from rifle to rifle, seating depth, etc. You should get a reloading manual, start at the minimum load and work up watching for pressure signs.

I would start with a seating depth .020" off the lands provided the round will fit the magazine and you have enough bullet inserted in the case for adequate bullet tension. A good 'rule of thumb' is one bullet diameter.

The most accurate load may not be the one that gives you the highest velocity. Since you're new to reloading I would stay below max loads until you are familiar with reading pressure signs. Safety always has to be the first consideration.

Gun: Tikka T3 light, 22" bbl, 1:10 twist
75 gr V-max seated to mag length ( I will have to update with c.o.a.l. In a week or so when I get home).
38.4 gr Varget (I'm going by memory as I don't have notes with me so compare and check some references )
Wolf LR primer
New WW brass

Vel for 4 shots (had these data on my phone)
1: 3228
2: 3129
3: 3174
4: 3187

Looks like a good load if a bit on warm side judging by somewhat flattened primers. No extraction issues, first firing on this brass. I haven't had time to do a proper Charge weight test but approach this load with usual caution.

Good luck!

37.0 of Varget gets a touch over 3000 fps in the old man's rifle. Blows ground squirrels to pieces.

He's put way too many rounds through that barrel (I estimate it has 1500+) and it still shoots substantially better than necessary.

Barrel stays cool, brass lasts forever, and critters explode. There are some advantages to running them a little shy on pressure...

I have the hornady 9th edition reloading book . And it has nothing on varget in the 75 gr only the 65 gr vmax has the data for varget Etc .

I never used Varget for .243 Win.......R-15 and H4350 have been the go to.....

41.60grs. R-15 push my target load with Hornady 75gr. HPBT and 75gr AMAX varmint/hunting loads, I don't have speed numbers in front of me but if memory serves it is around 3,100fps as I worked the load up to match factory HPBT speed.
