Value of Pre #70 LA w/ Mag bolt

Just recently inhearted a Winchester pre 64 # 70 bbl action, chambered in 300 H&H. The bbl. is badly pitted so I'm considering selling just the action w/trigger to help finance a left handed project and would like thoiughts on a fair asking price.

That's a good solid action and I think most people would be willing to pay $300-400 for it, maybe I'm off though. Seems people will pay that much for donor rifles and all that thing needs is a barrel and a stock and it's a hell of a hunting rig. Does it have the bottom metal and spring/follower as well? That'll help you get more for it.

Sounds like a gun broker.com thing to me. Put it out with a reserve price and watch where it goes.

I think it's worth more together. Now that somebody thinks it's only worth 3-400,thats what they ask for a rem 700. That gun should be worth at least double that or more if the stock is nice it may be worth that amount. One that's cut off is't worth much but one that hasn't been is worth a lot more.....jim

The barrel is not worthless. A number of years ago I got a used pre-64 target rifle in 30-06. My smith borescoped it and said it was one of the worst barrels he had seen. Sold it for $75 shipped if memory is correct. Buyer said he was going to rebore it to larger caliber. That Winchester name on the barrel has value. Agree with Jim, your pre-64 magnum action in good condition is worth at least twice the $300-$400 estimate. The Montana Rifle Co. sells what appears to be essentially a clone of the action for approx. $750.
