Valdata BR 36X vs Golden Eagle or Sightron III

It is my understanding that the Valdata glass can't be beat and that the better glass makes the extra power moot. Valdata price is about half way between the Vortex and the Sightron. I am limping along with a Sightron II 36x Big Sky. What do you folks that have looked through them all, say? Is the Valdata glass that good, or is it German hype?

Valdada uses some of the best available, Schott Werks glass from Germany, but that doesn't make a scope clear. It's the coatings that make or breaks a scope. Valdada uses their own 7 layer coating. I own 2 Valdada's and they are a very nice clear scope that holds their POI. As far as the scope being so clear that you don't need more magnification, well maybe yes, and maybe no. No 2 people's eyes are the same. I know 2 people who I shoot against that have no trouble seeing bullet holes at 300 yards with their Weaver T36, but I need a little more magnification at that range because my eyes are getting worse the older I get. Just a sad fact of life for some people.

they use good glass and are good scopes, much better now than even 10 years ago when they were kind of clunky. I don't care for the color their coatings transmit (kind of a greenish hue) compared to others such as Zeiss, Sightron etc. maybe the very new scopes are different?

I have one and have had a couple but they are/were older models, like I said , kind of clunky, the new ones I have seen have been improved greatly in fit/finish, I wouldn't be afraid to buy one for sure.

I have shot my NF 12-42 br's for the last 13 years. I shot last summer, most of the season, a 36x valada along side of the br's and there wasn't one day that I felt at a disadvantage with the 36x over the 42x. I am very impressed with the valada. It is very crisp and clear probably more so than the br. I also have 4 S111's 2 8-32 and 2 10-50 very nice scopes. I am very happy with them but I have never shot them in comp. I know nothing about the vortex so I can not say anything about them. I can say one thing. I have shot a 36x like yours and I know the valada and Nf br's and S111 are miles ahead of that particular scope.

Just got to the range today with a new Vortex Golden Eagle mounted in a Tikka T3 223. Weather was pretty crappy here in W. Pa,45 degrees with rain and fog........but comparing it to the 2 Nightforce Competitions I had with me I was very pleased. Very crisp and clear and with the limited time at the range I think this is a home run for the cost, it looks to be the equal to the Nightforce. I just sold a NSX 8-32X56 to fund purchasing the Golden Eagle and the Golden Eagle blows the NSX away in clarity.

Thank you all very much. May be spending some more of the kids inheritance. I just have to get someplace to look through them all.

You are right about looking through them. Usually good quality glass is better then cheaper. But everybody's eyes are different. What looks good to somebody else may not look good to you. Matt

I had a chance to look through a 36x valdada, a 42x fixed night force, a golden eagle vortex and my Leupold 45x at St Louis this past summer. The valdada and the night force were very close in terms of clarity with the vortex having really good glass also.
I would with out a doubt have the valdada 36 on my VFS gun if it wasn't for the extra weight and difficulty finding one for sale!

The Valdada 36X only weights 22 oz so it is not heavy. It is only 1oz heavier than my fixed 42 NF Comp. My straight March 40 weighs in at 20.9 oz. If you want a Valdada, they are easy to find. Call Bart, he sells a lot of them.

I was under the assumption they were at 22 0z, which isn't that heavy but my 30BR is 13.49lbs with a Leupold. Last a talked to Bart he didn't have any as of a few months ago.
