Valdada Recon G2, just ordered

Ok... I have never purchased a scope for nearly $3,000. I am hoping I did the correct thing in buying a Valdada Recon G2. I say 3k is a lot of money, I am a disabled veteran living on a tight budget. That is why I am sick to my stomach! It will sit on top of a Ruger Precision Rifle chambered in 338 Lapua Magnum that I plan on shooting in 1k competitions this summer and then maybe out as far as it will take me. Any feedback on the optic would be great.

I always recommend spending more on your scope than your rifle. Once you upgrade that rifle you can keep the scope for the new rifle. You cant go wrong with a valdada scope and yours can double as a hammer if you need to drive spikes. Youll see once you get the box and it feels like it weighs as much as the rifle

I've have several of their scopes I really like. The last one I bought had problems though and had to be sent back. After not being able to get a replacement or a satisfactory replacement they sent me a check for a full purchase price refund. It took a while but they did the right thing. Honestly can't say I've delt with many companies that would do that.

You will love the Valdada.
I personally prefer 2nd focal plane scopes but I'm sure the G2 is excellent.

The older 4-28X (40mm main tube) and 12-52x Terminator are 2 of my favorites and Valdada will stand up to heavy recoil probably better than most others will.

Take this for what it’s worth, which is a sample size of 1, but the only scope of theirs I have ever seen on the line was new and unusably broken. Maybe they’ve gotten their act together since then. People seem to like them.

I thank all for responding....

Can't understand how a broken scope could be "on the line"? When I was in the shit... we reped out badshit and got new. If someone was shooting with badgearthen maybe they couldn't afford new. Hope they did well!!

Been Top Notch since 2008 IMO. That's when I got my first one.
ANY mfgr scope can have a failure. - I know the 36x BR model is pretty highly sought after by a bunch of the short-range BR shooters.

I received my Valdada Recon G2 yesterday afternoon. This reply to my post is my first impression and opinion of the optic.

Once arrived from UPS, ordered from Midway USA, I was unable to really check it out... (Midway was very confused as to having to pre-check the sale, stock of optic, and condition, three times in four days.... delaying) I was on my way out the door to go get tires mounted on my H2... Maxxis Trepadors, 37x12.5x17 (another sad story). I didn't know which I was more excited to receive. You see... I have been saving for three years for tires for the ole Hummer and also saving for the Recon G2 optic for one year.

This is going to be a side bar guys.... I want to talk about a word called discipline! I learned it from getting my a$$ beat by my addicted father, god rest his sole, at a young age. And then further in the military as a Combat Warfare Specialist Seabee in the Navy. I learned that anything worth having needed to be saved for on a specific timeline without causing a financial burdon to household and family. I raised my young boy to a man, lost everything due to my service connected disability creeping up on me and taking the wind out of my sails... only to provide the needs of others before mine. So, a few years of saving, not spending money on beer, cheap dates, and frivolous needs, I saved for two things I wanted which came to fruition at the same time. Todays society is of immediate self gratification to say the least.

Back to the optic.... opening of the box from Midway and it revealed several layers of bubble wrap and protective air-filled bags.....there it was..... the holy grail! A finely printed box with Valdada's signature black and red design. Opening the Valdada box was no disappointment at all. Inside was a similar fashion for wrappings that clouded the deep dark black shadow of mystery. In my hastiness to get the package open and out the door to get the new sneakers on the ole H2 I ripped open the packaging to reveal one of the finest made optics that I have seen.

Guys... all creative writting aside, I was truely impressed with the optic and am now certain that it was money well saved and well spent. The size is on par with Vortex Razor, some Nightforce, and a bit smaller than Schmidt and Bender and certainly smaller than the IOR Terminator. But the 40mm main tube is a marvel of engineering.

When I arrived home after the very dissapointing ride quality of the Maxxis tires on my vehicle, I spent some time on the phone talking with Val from Valdada. With my luck, the "King Kong" Valdada rings that are so called medium height that ship with the optic from Midway are nothing close to medium in height.

If you learn anything fron my rant....

VAL, from Valdada, IS A CLASS ACT!

He spent 30 minutes on the phone talking with me about my caliber of 338LM, the scopes MOA, drop with Bergers, Cutting Edge, and Sierra's at what distances and what adjustments of the scope with my 30 MOA rail I might expect to need. Before all was over Val had a shipping label with a corrected height of the upgraded rings I needed at no additional charge. Here is the awesome part... in order to get shooting and not have newbee scope withdrawals, he sent them out without requiring for me to send in the mediums first. Thank you sir once again!

So, in a few days when the new rings get here and the rain clears up, I will run a series of tracking tests with an update. As for now I am loading up some 250 SMK's on top of 89.5 grains of IMR7828 in the amazing brass that Ben Preston hooked me up with from Peterson Cartridge.

As far as an update on the Valdada Recon G2 optic.... been shooting it for a few weeks now and really love the optic clarity! I have been out to about 450 yards and it is tracking very well for when I return to zero at 100 yards. At 100 yardsstepping up in 5 MOA increments to 40 MOA it returns to zero flawlessly. The only downfall if itis even oneis theclutter of the recticle at higher powers which I am not used to with a second focal plane optic. As I said that's on me and it shouldn't reflect on the optic. The ability to spot other shooters with the Recon G2 is hindered by the recticle also. The precision of the scaling of the recticle is outstanding. Its size of the crosshairs is incredibly fine and scales beautifully.
