Utah

I recently visited several of the Utah National Parks and explored that part of the Colorado Plateau. See the links below for the best part of the tour.

Utah is an amazing state. Salt Lake City is in an incredible sitting. The hunting opportunities in the mountains look promising. And you have to enjoy that 80 mph speed limit.

I want to personally thank you for such excellent photography. Is the lizard friendly? Did you see any snake's when you were out ? Did you move there?

Great pictures. Utah is a pretty state. Friendly gun laws, nice people. Go ahead Jon. Get out of New York.

Lizards were semi-friendly. They would get out of the way but were never in a hurry.

We didn't see any rattle snakes but we did see a few very large snakes that I would call either a bull snake or a gopher snake if I saw them in Oregon where I live.

No intention to move to Utah. It really is a beautiful state, but when we were there the temps all week were in the high 90s. The morning we left Moab at 6:00 a.m. the low temp was 82 for the night. I understand the winters are cold. I will stay in the moderate climate of Western Oregon for now, although today we are at 103 degrees and still climbing.

Moved to Utah in '79.......no plans on leaving any time soon.......

Hunting is good......but good tags are hard to draw...

Utah has any type of outdoor activities for any season or reason....

Seems lately we only have two seasons......winter or summer....

I live in Podunk Utah.....have no use for the city...traffic...and all that

goes with city living....three hours from SLC or GJ CO....pics are very local...

High mountains or high desert...easy to get away from it all locally...

Another beautiful drive through Utah is on Route 12. Wasn't able to get any really good pictures so that part of the trip wasn't documented well. The road borders the NW side of the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument where that part of Utah slopes off into the Colorado River. Amazing drive.

I did not visit the Ashley Mountain area due to time constraints, but wish we had.

Great photography to say the least. Your pictures make me realize how much I haven't seen in my life. My son just moved to Montana so all that might change for me shortly.

Lived there for 17 yrs and graduated from the U. The southern half of the state is different planet. Worst mistake was moving away. Passing through or visiting the parks only scrapes the surface of what the state holds. I really miss it all.

I have been thru most of the contiguous states in this union. From the Northeast Adirondack Mountains, to the Appalachian Mountains, thru the desert Southwest to the Rockies, all the way down to the Gulf of Mexico and the states surrounding it, I have seen most of our country. Each place has it's own unique beauty. The "Greenery" of Tennessee, to the Finger Lakes in the Fall, ablaze with the FULL colors of Autumn, to the incredible color mystique cut into the sides of mountains in Arizona, to the gorgeous Mighty Columbia River, is there a more fabulous country than The GREAT United States of Beautiful America! We are truly a blessed people! Make no mistake of that!! It causes me to think of the song "God Bless America" which was beautifully sung by Kate Smith! If you have not listened to that, take a few moments to listen to that great song! It brings a smile to my face and a tear to my heart.

Here is a link to some pictures I took last year in Glacier National Park, Montana. Glacier is much different than the national parks in Utah, yet both areas are the remains of sedimentary deposits from mountains long eroded away. While Utah is spectacular, I still consider Glacier the most beautiful of all the US national parks. I hope to return to Banff and Jasper National Parks in Canada next summer, which are just like Glacier but times 10 in size.

A note about the Henry Mountains since Dogbuster posted some great pics of them. That area of the United States was the last areas surveyed because of the remoteness and rugged landscape. Pres100 describes the entire area as a different planet and I couldn't agree more. I don't think there is any other place on this planet that even come close to this area of the United States. You have to see it to fully understand what he means.

No meaning to hijack thread.......but yes...Henry Mtn's are amazing

They can be seen from hundreds of miles away jutting up from desert floor

about 450 Bison roam free...along with many many trophy mule deer bucks

One of the top 3 LE mule deer units....here's an average buck headed out...

we've all heard the term.......'Young Buck'......here's one...

The entire Rocky Mountain west is incredible. as Otter mentioned, Jasper, Banff, glacier, and on down through Yellowstone, Jackson, Idaho, etc there are a ton of incredible spots. Having the time to spend months and even years to endlessly explore them just heightens the appreciation!

+1000 on the Route 12 drive. My wife and I have been all over the country over the years. The Rt 12 drive from Zion Nat'l Park up to Capitol Reef Nat'l Park, or vice versa, is simply beautiful and one of the nicest drives in the U.S., IMHO.
