Using hbn on loaded rounds ????

Just curious, can loaded rounds (bullets) be coated by using 99% isopropyl alcohol and hbn mixture , then putting a small drop on the bullet/case junction, and then rotate case ? I have done a couple factory rounds , cleaned with acetone, and it leaves a slight haze, indicating a light coating. I know it wipes off easily, but if left on, would the coating be transferred to the bore without increasing pressure? I do coat the bore with hbn, but have read conflicting views if using bullets without hbn, it negates the bore coating.....maybe chasing shadows...rsbhunter

I've traveled the HBN route. I found no advantages related to velocity/pressure or barrel cleanup that was worth the effort. I no longer shoot coated bullets. However, since proper HBN impregnation into the copper jacket requires impact, just applying a film to the surface would likely be a waste of time/materials. I would see no harm in giving it a try though.

Yeah, I can't verify the benefit of using it, but can't say it is or isn't a good thing. I do coat all of my component bullets, and these are the first factory rounds I have used in probably 20 years, honestly. I was hoping that the hbn would be embedded into the bore by the bullets jacket, and some of the loose "dust particles" would be blown down the bore. The good thing is I have the hbn, so it's not an added expense, and I don't think it will be detrimental. I honestly have noticed a difference with the first cold bore and clean bore shots being in the group, as more erratic without the hbn. More of an experiment than anything, so we shall see.....rsbhunter
