Using a full length bushing die and Porter pin dies?

So if you’re using a ful length bushing die. Does the bushing bump the shoulder or set the neck tension? My plan was to set neck tension with the pin dies. Am I correct in thinking this way?

Some FL bushing dies, like the Tubb's 6XC and SAC dies, have the shoulder built in to the bushing, so it's bumping the shoulder and sizing the neck.

With more common dies, the bushing only does the neck sizing.

You can still run a mandrel to uniform inside of the neck, or to set your final desired interference/tension, even if you run a bushing die.

I use Redding bushings to size the neck diameter and a separate body die to set back/size the shoulder. I’m not familiar with Porter pin dies.

I use a full length bushing type sizing die. I use it to bump the shoulder and to do initial sizing of the neck. The body of the die bumps the shoulder back. The bushing sizes the neck. I use the die with the de-capping pin removed. Next, I use a Porter pin die to finish the neck sizing. Kenny Porter makes an excellent tool. If you buy the pins from him, they will be beveled on one end. I bought a few pins and bushings for each of the calibers I shoot so I could experiment with neck tension. This system works very well for me. Kenny Porter's dies and pins are reasonably priced and a good value.

There is more than one way to skin a cat. As mentioned above, some dies using bushings that do neck and shoulder while some use just a neck bushing. Some folks don't use a mandrel at all. Its just a matter of trial and error and deciding what gives you the results you want.

I find my best results with a body die, then a competition neck die 0.004" under, and then an expander 0.002" under bore diameter.
