use of scope for long range matches

Are there NRA sanctioned matches that allow the use of a scope for the 800,900, 1000 yd. matches? Can a 30-06 be used or does it have to be a .308, .223? Am looking for a match that will allow a scope sighted .30-06.
Thanks

If you shoot in F-Class, you may use a scope. If you shoot in F-Open, you may use .30-'06 and a scope. Some venues format their matches as "Any Sight" or "Any-Any", the latter meaning any sight, any cartridge. If it is a strict Palma match, you are limited to .223 or .308 and iron sights.

Don't bypass the opportunity to shoot F-class in the midrange matches. A lot more ranges with 500 or 600 yard lines than there are with the long range lines.

Dave's point is well taken. The same applies to 300 reduced matches. If you shoot a 300 yard match, stay sharp! The competition is tough and X count usually decides the match. The X is only 1.42" diameter.

You seem to be referring to Palma matches. The only class allowing scopes for awards is F-class. You can shoot a 30-06 but it would be in F-open and not F/TR.

As mentioned above there are NRA Sanctioned Matches that will, like High Power, depending on your rifle (not just caliber) to make class such as NRA Rule 3.3.2 NRA Any Sight Match Rifle/Tactical Rifle, the Complete High Power Rule book can be fond here: http://www.nrahq.org/compete/RuleBooks/HPR/hpr-index.pdf Section 3 covers Equipment.

Steve,

The NRA does not present Awards to competitors, only a Classification, it's the local club that Sponsors the Tournament that hands out the Awards and some go above and beyond the NRA Directives of what will qualify and have had to think outside the box to hold Matches with limited distance Ranges (100-200 yds.) that don't meet the 300 yd. min. distance for F-Class.
