Use brass that is .008 short?

Ran some fired brass through the trimmer today and it came out .008 short. Trimmer has been set up for this round for some time with this never happening before- maybe it got bumped somehow etc. but that is a different thread.

Question is that I now have some cases that are .008 shorter than spec- use them or not?

Brass is always processed the same- shoulder bumped .002, neck sized, trimmed, chamfered, primer pocket cleaned and then tumbled. Weight sorting on initial batches. These were 2x fired cases, bullets used do not have a cannelure and are not crimped.

These are for a hunting rifle that has consistently shot sub MOA to 600 yards which is much farther than it will ever be used at but good practice none the less.

Is a .008 discrepancy enough of a difference to cause an accuracy issue in this application?

There is no problem using that brass at all.. However, you simply need to go the extra mile to ensure that a carbon ring does not form just in front of the where the case mouth ends and the leade begins..

did this once and forgot to keep them seperate from the longer cases. took awhile to figure out why they shot differently. the problem with a carbon ring is important...if you shot a number of the short ones and they deposited a ring (just about guarantee it willl happen) , then chambered a case longer, you could get some crimping of the neck and pressures go up.
