knew there was effort by sens boxer, feinstein, harry reed, schumer and 42 other dems to implement an international gun registry on all privately owned guns and ammo under the un small arms treaty. it was defeated by too close a vote of 53-46.

What's the source of your information?

I don't think it was ever intended that politicians become "professional" politicians. The term limits should be shorter and cut out all the "bennies". I think that originally it was intended that good average people get elected to go serve and then go back home and live with what they did and the people in their own communities. Some of those in congress have been in there forever it seems like. JMHO

I dunno man. If you limit terms, that power will go somewhere. Already it is vested in the "4th branch" of government, the Bureaucracy. I fear them more than I fear politicos, as it takes a mighty effort on the part of our elected representatives to sway the helm of the Bureaucracy even a few degrees, there is so much bloat and inertia. And with each new law comes a new agency to administer it. :(

I think we need more laws making politicians accountable, they shouldn't be exempt from the same legislation and BS they push down the people that voted them in! Serve two terms and they get full pension and medical WTF, and they shouldn't be able to submit bills that benefit companies they are the C.E.O! Houghton pushed laws for Catalytic converters on tractor trailers and Corning Inc builds a Catalytic converter plant in Erwin, NY. Ironic!

They also shouldn't be allowed to pass legislation that benefits only them. Conflict of interest of the highest order!

I know what you mean Stubbi....where the heck do we start??? Thanks for your reply. Can't we elect some to start to defund some of this crap?

Lapua40x: CatShooter comes to the rescue again. he posted a source describing the situation . everybody needs to read these, i could not find them. my point was not so much that the senate voted this "treaty" down, but that 46 senators, all dems and card carrying anti gunners, voted ,with obama's encouragement, to give the un athority over american citizen's gun ownership. i was under the impression they went this route so as to circumvent the second amendment, but CatShooter's info says something to the effect that this may not be so. these people are extremely smart and cunning and will not give up. the ballot box could be our salvation, but the paranoid side of me tells me that this may not be such a sure thing anymore.
