us senate votes against un arms trade treaty(46 voted for it!!!)

knew there was effort by sens boxer, feinstein, harry reed, schumer and 42 other dems to implement an international gun registry on all privately owned guns and ammo under the un small arms treaty. it was defeated by too close a vote of 53-46. don't recall seeing this on the front page of anything. it's what i don't know that really scares me. i completely respect and honor those that died to give me the right to "own and bare arms" and fear beyond belief these that are trying and will continue to try to disarm me...out of my cold dead hands!

I would have hoped for a stronger vote - even from the democrats. These spineless toads are sure not the democratic party of my childhood...

... but I'll take it.

Another little tid-bit of information you may or may not know.. I "support" Tea Party candidates who run for office, be it in the House or the Senate. I am also a BIG supporter of The N.R.A. and as such get "news" from them, especially at election time. There was a female who was running against Harry Reid for his senate seat and narrowly lost. I can't remember but I think her name was Sharon Angle>>I am not positive on her name. BUT this I am positive about: The N.R.A. sent me literature about voting for Harry Rein because he was THE BIGGEST supporter of "gun rights" in the Senate! I was aghast! The "Republican Establishment" pulled all their "national financing" away from the "Republican Challenger" who more than likely would have won had she had the backing of The N.R.A. and the Republican Establishment! Now we have Harry Reid in charge of the Senate and we think he is going to be watching out for us gun owners? Good luck with that fantasy! I pulled the plug on "supporting" the Republican National Committee" and although I still support the N.R.A. as they are "Custer's Last Stand" so to speak, I wonder sometimes about their political savvy!

To be fair (if that is possible), Harry Reid was a very good gun rights supporter in the past.

But Harry is a whore of the first order, and now that Obama is in power, he sees the writing on the wall, and is now, no longer a gun rights supporter - he is anti-gun - remember, that Harry is in his mid 70's and his age is showing. This is probably his last term, so he has little to loose by being a turncoat.

Sometimes I really wonder if there is a "choice" anymore or are they ALL OWNED by big money so they can get re election money and stay in power with all of its benefits. I have to believe there are still some good in office who live by good principles. This is a good thread and I hope it is allowed to keep going and thank you guys for your thoughts here. I also think it is so important that we remember that we as gun owners must stick together as we have plenty of antis "out there" against us that we don't need to quarrel with each other. Best Wishes all.

I gotta think this statement gives Harry Reed to much credit! I have been watching or following his statements and he only knows how to lie!

Here is another thought I have>>BUT to be honest, it may be more "wishful thinking" than reality. Having said that, there is a groundswell movement here in Texas to secede from the union. There are 3 organizations that I know of that have over 400K membership cumulatively. I suspect that in other states there is also that same discontent and activity growing also. I think that if they make a REAL CONCERTED effort to grab our guns, along with destroying the economy, it may trigger a HUGE secession movement in what I call "The Conservative States of America". I believe there will be some precipitous event that will coalesce conservatives out of their lethargy.. I actually can foresee this happening! However, as I stated in my first line, it may just be wishful thinking!

You can't blame the NRA for a lying politician, But the Republicans keep pushing middle candidates or Rino's ! If you want to draw out your base and get a good voter turn out you may want to separate your self from your apposition!

I would have to agree with this, Standing around the water cooler at the local gun shops the only light people see is states seceding!

Let me be very clear, I hate Harry Reid, as a former Las Vegan for 16 years I can speak of his status as a gun supporter. First it was Harry Reid and John Ensign that managed to get 680+ acres of land set aside for what is now one of the nicest range facilities in the USA, second when we needed the funding to build that range, both senators got Clark County an initial award of 52 Million dollars to build the range. Then the State was informed that we were on the waiting list in I think 21st position for PLMA money( Public Lands Management Act) they both went to work and had the range moved from 21st to 1st Position so that the construction could begin. Harry has one of the largest gun collections in the state of Nv. so to say he has turned against gun owners is unlikely. I would still never vote for him but I hope this clears up any information that he is against guns. If your ever in Vegas the new range is on the west side of town, and is nothing short of phenominal.

Good for Vegas, But the guy is helping push the some of the largest anti gun legislation in America!

Thank goodness this UN "arms trade treaty" fell short. Unfortunately, it never goes away and they keep trying. And yes, the narrow margin of victory is just a reminder of the influence of Democrats in this nation. (No, I'm not saying the Rhinos are great candidates....just saying the Democrats ARE the devil !!)

As for seccession; If earnings redistribution, gay marriage, abortion, racial disharmony, the attack on our 2nd amendment rights, and just the general decay of our society hasn't been the perfect catalyst for a serious secessionist movement, then I really don't think we will ever see it. First off, it would take somebody high up in politics like a Governor to help make such an effort remotely workable. But Governors, like the majority of all other politicians, are part of the system and ultimately work within that system and sustain it.

Check the Senate web site, I did not see any votes on Un Arms treaty!

I think there is some confusion going on in this thread, those votes were to oppose the treaty when it arrives in the Senate, there has not been a vote to Ratify the treaty. That vote requires a 2/3 majority so its gonna need 66 votes! If you read the articles you linked they are about opposition to the treaty not a vote on the treaty, there's a big difference and any Senator that votes to ratify the treaty should be thrown out of office and prosecuted, because they are in violation of their oath of office! Which in part says I will support and defend the constitution of the United States! I still think the citizenry should adopt a throw them all out philosophy, because they are all a bunch of jackwagon's. There are a few that have the right idea, like Ted Cruz, and some of the freshman Tea Part types but past that they are bum's!

I don't think it was ever intended that politicians become "professional" politicians. The term limits should be shorter and cut out all the "bennies". I think that originally it was intended that good average people get elected to go serve and then go back home and live with what they did and the people in their own communities. Some of those in congress have been in there forever it seems like. JMHO

riverwolf1 is correct! Under constitutional law, a two-thirds majority vote (67) is required to ratify a treaty.

I'm not saying a yes vote in favor of the treaty by 46 votes is not a concern. It's a disgrace that this issue ever came up to begin with, but it was not a "close vote".
