US National Rifle Team 2018 Tryout - Official Announcement
Shooters,
The US National Rifle Team will be hosting an official tryout at Gopher Rifle & Revolver Club in Harris, MN on July 7-8, 2018. The National Team is the development/feeder program for the US Palma Team. This event is open to all prone (sling) shooters. Cost will be $150 per shooter, which will cover range fees, and the expenses of the coaches and support staff, some of whom will be traveling from out of state. Any excess funds will be sent to the US Palma Team general fund.
For the tryout, each shooter will fire 6 20-shot strings at 1000 yards (3 strings per day, weather permitting), shooting under USNRT wind coaches. The shooter is responsible for holding elevation, while the coaches make all necessary wind corrections. The shooters are graded by how well they hold elevation, and are docked points for any shots above or below the X-ring. For this tryout, a shooter will need to accumulate less than 48 points after 120 shots to be considered for the Development team. See attached target .pdf for details on point values.
We are expecting a large response for this tryout, and there will be a limited number of shooter slots available for the weekend. PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED, DON’T DELAY! Shooters will be registered in the order in which we receive entries, with excess entries going onto a waiting list. Pre-payment is not necessary, but cancellations will be severely frowned upon.
As people will be traveling long distances to shoot this tryout, we will be making every effort to ensure that everyone gets their 120 shots fired. Be prepared to shoot in less than ideal weather conditions. In the case of a bad forecast for one of the 2 days, be prepared to shoot extra on the other day. In case of dangerous weather, we will do our best to come up with a plan B. With any luck, we won’t have to worry about any of that…
***IMPORTANT*** Any shooter attending the tryout must shoot an iron-sighted Palma rifle chambered in .308, with 155 grain bullets. No other rifle/ammo combinations will be allowed.
