Not starting a shipper rant (plenty elsewhere) just trying to help a friend. Is anyone aware of issues shipping cutlery via UPS? A friend shipped three larger boxes containing smaller gift packages to another state. She tracked that two were delivered but one disappeared. After spending two days playing the phone game, and getting several explanations, it seems it was x-rayed, designated "fraudulent", and impounded. At least one representative told her the problem was a large kitchen knife, still in the original package, in with mostly toys for nieces and nephews. I gather somehow she should have declared it was in there, but that explanation doesn't pass my sniff test, and one fraud dept. supervisor told her that was nonsense, but he also couldn't (or wouldn't) explain why it was being held. He also told her she would likely never get the stuff back, or see any compensation. "Just one of those things, sorry." He doesn't return her followup calls.
Is anyone aware of any law or rules regarding shipping of cutlery, in particular via UPS? I'm sure not. Something smells fishy, but I only have my friend's information. But she's an upstanding person just trying to be the thoughtful, generous auntie, nothing nefarious going on, I've know her forty years.
