Upcoming week off, headed to Colorado for fishing, jeeping and rock chucks

I did this same sort of thing a few years ago, went jeeping up around Silverton. We found one area that had quite a few of them out and about right at the tree line. Maybe 10kish In altitude. Hopefully that’s the case. The season up there starts in August so hopefully we get some opportunity.
Have a good trip buddy and shoot straight! We need a full report when you get home. Drive safe.

Colorado is way too liberal for most working folks.

Completely full of trust funders and the elite

I wouldn't live in Colorado but I do like to visit, it has some amazing country. When we ride road bikes up there, or jeep, razor or whatever we usually have a good time and avoid most of the obnoxious people who are out. unfortunately most of the west, Arizona included, is experiencing large amounts of people moving in. It’s certainly changing the political landscape in Arizona, its disheartening for sure.

Yep, great country, some of the best high country 4X4 jeeping in the world, great hiking and camping, good hunting and fishing, and in most of the rural areas, fantastic people. Colorado is still a great place, but with all the high pocketed folks buying 3rd and 4th homes here, the politics have certainly changed.

Avoiding the ski towns and of course the concrete jungle along the front range will likely make for a better experience.

Plenty of NRA 600 yard F-Class match's and Freedom 600 Benchrest match's on the Western Slope if you want to make some noise.

I hope you have the best time imageable.

If you get a chance try a western slope peach. I actually think they taste better than the famous Georgia peaches out this way. Definitely not a popular opinion down here but certainly worth trying for yourself.

Yep,
Palisade Peaches are the best for sure......... small valley not a lot grown and they do not make it far.... maybe one state away in each direction.

Olathe sweet corn is the same.

Rocky Ford cantaloupe and Green River water melon's are also in season and available locally.

The western slope has over 30 wineries, and some of the product is actually very good. Then again, I do not like wine, so there is that.

If you're interested in prairie dogs, there should be a target rich environment on top of the mesa north side of the river. Take county road 4600 to get to the top.

Colorado is incredible. Spent a month there around 2008ish and did Imogene and some other trails around silverton. I did see some chucks up there. Shame the 2 a day limit, but they probably did that cuz me and everyone else on this forum would just spend every summer mowing down chucks and jeepin'. Watch out for the rabid hippies, they are more dangerous than the bears...

After hearing the news lately, bears and hippies are the least of our worries.
