Another good day on p-dogs with a good friend.
I used my Savage .223, 1/14 tw, 24" ER shaw bbl, suppressed, 50g vmax load and some 40g NVG handload rounds. Nikon Black 4-16x50 scope, MOA reticle. My usual deal of keeping my barrel wrap soaking wet and no stopping needed(for me) to cool. Pal swapped between 2 guns. The grasses are knee high in many places on the ranches out here & the pdog birth explosion of thousands upon thousands.
We pretty much had to find them in the grasses, figuring where the fattest part of the body was by watching the tail when you can see it or when they stood up to eat or look around and watching them get sucked up 2-6' into the air when hit by a 32,40 or 50g bullet. Then as the rest ran to mounds in force we picked them off like crazy, many doubles, triples again. Getting up on a rise is the best bet here or a platform in the truck bed (legal on private land out here).
Pal was using his .204s and .223s. Due to the layout/grasses 90% of all shots were under 250 yards.
Most of mine were under 200 yards. Pal did pop many past 300 yds. Mirage was terrible.
Temp was in the low-mid 90s, hot, some wind, but fun as heck.
Drunk lots of Gatorade,water,sodas...no shade to hide under, just wide brim hats.
Darn biting flys were all over especially closer to the creeks, ground dry in most places, but very lush green which means lots of BUGS.
Saw no ones pet rattlers today again.....yeay.
Only took a few pictures, but you all know what popped p-dogs look like.
