Looking at relatively modern actions, for relatively modern rimless cartridges, there are varying amounts of unsupported case required for everything to fit together and function, for instance a Savage at ~.130+, a R700 at ~.155+, and a T2k at more still. Measuring a handful of cases new and old, I find web thicknesses of ~.175-.200+.
Obviously you don’t want more case protrusion than necessary.
My question is, how much solid web must be inside the chamber? Is a .175” web protruding .165” safe, etc.
I’d like the thoughts of anyone with a background that precludes guesswork.
