Gentlemen:
I have a Himmerli 300 Meter Match Rifle, caliber .308 Winchester. It is factory D&T'ed on the barrel for scope blocks. I built one of the adapter bases to use a 36X B&L scope with rimfire blocks on the barrel. Worked perfect, but the scope was quite high-mounted. see pic below.
I recently acquired a Redfield 3200 24X
The only set of Redfield Big-Bore Scope Bases I have in my parts stash are two very different heights!
Here's what I did:
I found that a Weaver # 46 not only matched the barrel profile, but the holes lined up perfectly for the rear base!
I only had to drill one additional hole in a second Weaver # 46 for the front base.
Next, I attached a set of Burris Signature Zee Rings,W/ the floating, Synthetic Inserts) to the bases, and mounted my Redfield 3200 24X scope to it. Yes, I do have the correct rings for the Redfield 3200, and no, they ain't fer sale!
I repaired to the range w/ the box of various inserts, ready to do some work to get it bore sighted. I could not believe it! It was about "dead nuts" right from the git go!
With my ugly mug firmly on the rifles cheek-piece, my eye lined right up w/ the scope eyepiece...and get this, i don't even have to remove the front globe sight! The scope must be lined up w/ the front aperture insert. It couldn't get any better then this...or could it? Yep, it gets better!
With 0/0 inserts, it shot 2 inches high @ 100 yards, and 1 inch left,there was a stiff cross wind blowing from right to left). A few clicks on each turret, and it pinwheeled the X ring!
