Unique lube is safe for powder/primers right??

Whatcha mean?

Well, it's like when you ask "How's the food at Funky Charley's" and no one speaks up, then maybe the food at Funky Charley's is not too good.

But if you like Unique, then maybe you can spread the word.

I have never used Unique lube. I do use Imperial and cannot find a good reason not to use it. Since you have used both, please post why you chose/like it over Imperial. Thanks!

I have used Imperial, and left it. It is messy and gooey and a pain to clean off.

Went to RCBS-II - easy to roll on with a pad, and washes off in water, or wipes off with a damp cloth.

I use Unique…. and love it, I apply it with my fingers. Not too messy and easy to clean off. Great for sizing and I also use it as a neck turning lube, no problems, That being said, I always clean/tumble my brass just before loading. Haven't tried it for waterproofing my boots yet!!! HA!!
It doesn't seem to be the type of lube that will creep into primer pockets, I would suspect that if it got directly into a primer it could eventually cause problems….Clean dry primers are happy primers.

I was indeed using it for neck turning, because I kept getting brass shavings in my imperial, and I'm anal. When I noticed how easy it was to remove, I pretty much fell in love.

All because Imperial was out of stock one day.

So nobody knows if it's safe for powder and primers?

Well, I'm still confused with the question. How is the primer or powder coming in contact with the lube regardless of the make? Maybe I'm not reading it right.

Yeah... what he asked??

If you find Imperial hard to clean up--you're using too much. I have both lubes mentioned I had the Unique first and after watching some folks loading at a local BR match and noting how many used Imperial and how fast they were able to load-- I bought some. Since then I have gone through 3 cans of Imperial and have a 4th waiting and the Unique is around somewhere in a drawer I guess.........BTW, a lot of folks use Imperial on the pilot when turning necks and also on cases when fire forming.

Brass is ultra-sonic cleaned so I dunk the neck very lightly, then use the residue to spread over the case.

If I don't get a trace inside the neck, it's rough over the expander ball and stretches out, noticeably.

So we are talking about a trace amount inside the neck, that's about it. But everything counts.

I have been using RCBS Case Lube-2 with the pad. I got two new tubs of Unique cheap so I decided to give it a try as I hate having to keep applying RCBS lube on the pad. Wanted to see how good Unique was and if it saved me time.

It arrived yesterday and I just finished sizing 250 LC '11 .308 cases and 500 FC .308 WIN cases. Unique worked great, not that messy and smells good. I am sold. Also, used so little to do 750 cases. The two tubs I got will last forever.

I'm glad you like it, do you know if it's powder safe?

I've had some left in case necks by accident. When adding powder the granules coated the inside of the neck. Being somewhat lazy the day that happened I just went ahead and seated the bullets, figuring that the compression ring would just scrape the powder into the case. It did and when those cartridges were fired there was absolutely no difference in performance. I had a whole box (50) that ended up like this and they still gave me sub 1/4 MOA accuracy with no scary smoke clouds or long flames from the muzzle. Unique is mostly Tallow (Beef Fat) Glycerol Monooleate, and Mink Oil. They toss in a small amount of parafin for good measure. No major quantities of petroleum products.

Even at that, I prefer to keep the Unique out of the cases now.

Don't know if it's relevant but when I used to sonic clean I had a empty bullet box that I filled with #8 steel shot along with HBN and then powered graphite, would dip the necks of the cases in it and swish it around, helped with lubing the inside of the neck for seating with no adverse effects.
