Unfilled doe tags this year....

Preacher I can say with out a doubt that if I was still able to get out and hunt she would be in the freezer.

I think it is the getting older thing also. I haven't shot a doe in years. Of coarse the numbers we have where I hunt has been way down compared to what it used to be. When I started hunting you could see 40 deer or more by 9 in the morning. Now you are lucky to see 10 in a season. MATT

I've cut back myself. Old age I reckon! Did get enough for the freezer and a couple to the food pantry. Took 3 bucks and a doe. Wife took a nice doe. We can group hunt during the rifle season or I can only take one bow buck and one gun buck. That doe looks mighty tasty Preacher!

Raised seven kids on deer and elk meat. Now it's just me and the Mrs and one elk pretty much does it for meat. We bottle the extra for a rainy day. Nice picture a Preacher!

I don't hunt anymore either. My neighbor does & we split
the cost for butchering & i get half. Good enough for me.

Never filled my doe tags this year, seems like I'm getting old enough to be content with shooting photo's instead.. Will for sure be missing out on a lot of tasty red meat because of it thoughView attachment 995728 ...
That's a nice shot And you know you made it . 3 year ago I took a shot at limb a doe eating acorns off the tree At 35 yards . Missing the limb . Wish I had that picture .

well it has been quite a few years since I have been skunked doe hunting but this year I had three tags as usual but I did not get one..My work schedule would not allow me to take the week off for hunting as I normally do. So I only had three days to hunt...And yes the first day out I did miss one at 600 yards..just got over her..That has not happened in a while either..My second day it was 22 deg F with a steady 3-5 MPH wind gusting to 10 MPH with 78% humidity..So cold..very cold...I made it half a day and never seen one..the next day I got up late about 4:30 AM and said ah F* It..went back to bed...So I told the folks who share in the deer meat every year NO DEER THIS YEAR and hey they were kind of pissed off...like bummed out...I did see I nice 6 point buck..real nice big deer but they have to be 8 point or better so I did not shoot him..But yea getting older does not help at all..

Looks like I will be checking for recipes for doe tag stew for at least one for tag and maybe 2. Hunted 6 days and only saw one doe and only heard 5 shots all season. WD

Deer population is almost out of control in my area. North Arkansas. Statewide bag limit is 6 and only 2 can be bucks. In some regions (last year) a doe tag had to be filled before you were allowed to shoot a buck. Sounds crazy but that's how thick they are here. Driving a vehicle at night is like playing a "Dodge the Deer" video game. Nearly slammed into a group of 5 does coming home from work today. When I was growing up in the 1970's there were nearly zero deer here. We all hunted but almost nobody actually bagged one. Now you can't swing a dead cat without hitting a white tail deer.

Generally have 3-4 does hanging around the 40+ acre property not including the new borns from this year...
Mostly use them for buck bait especially when they are bedded down for the day right out in the open at 135 yards...

Going to have to hook my wife's niece's hubby up with you. He is in extreme North AR. close to Bull Shoals. He did not get a deer this past season. He has a super nice machine shop and retired with time to use it. Maybe he can exchange some machine work for guide service? :D

Didn't bag one in Bull Shoals?! That's surprising to say the least. The deer are so thick there that deer hunting is allowed withing the city limits (archery only, for safety sake).

He's closest to a little town called Protem and I think that is actually in MO. He doesn't go beyond his property which is a small tract of land with beautiful house along Bull shoals lake.

Been to Protem. A cool cave there called "The Ozark Underground Laboratory".

Read your post back in mid December and hoped I'd have my only doe tag on a doe by now. Only 7 days left to punch it and rain and warmer temps headed our way. Hoping to get it done by next weekend but time is ticking. With deer meat in the freezer from earlier in the season, it's tough sometimes to leave the warmth of the loading bench and climb a tree with bow in hand. Especially when temps dip into the single digits often times here. Maybe I'll post a pic if I get lucky enough to punch that tag.
