Can anybody tell me anything about this Unertl scope??Its an 8x with a fine crosshair and the vertical wire has 3 dots. The centered dot is largest, the one below that is smaller and the one below that is smallest

Brad: Looks very much like my 10x Varmint model, dehorned mounts, parralax is semi-fixed, ring must be removed from objective to change. Send me more info, including serial number and I may be able to look it up in my Unertl catalog. Your mounts are Lyman, I believe. They were used in early production models before Unertl began producing their own mounts. Mine are the usual silver colored.

Brad,

That appears to be the 1-1/4 inch Varmint scope.
It was available in 6,8,10 or 12X
Overall length 20 inches
Eye relief 2-1/2 inch

The T. K. Lee dots were optional and were used for 100/200/300 yard varminting. Do you know what rifle and cartridge it was used on?

Failing that, if you send Frank the serial number, that will help date it. If it`s as old as I think, it was used before the advent of the 222 Rem. Just a guess....

STP: Yes, it is an old one, with a serial # in the 20400 range. My list of numbers & dates begins with 34991 dated June 1955, so it would be very early 50s' or even late 40s'. Records were spotty at best with all the 'special orders' that were available. On top of that you have all the after-market alterations, and not all had serial numbers. Just recently bought a BV20 in as new condition, production 1977 'til '88) w/o a serial number. It came with a receiver mounted,Rem 700 SA) one piece base, so barrel does not have to be drilled & tapped for the front block. That always bothered me with my 'traditional mount Unertls': how do you free-float a barrel, then bolt/attach a scope to it? My 1 1/4' 12x is so long,25'), the rifle will not fit in any of my storage racks. Great scopes, outstanding optics/clarity, but not without shortcomings. I have no problem with the high end Leupolds.;)
