Under 21 handgun ban ruled unconstitutional

Where to even start . When the Congress enacted this handgun prohibition in 1968 , the U.S. had over 105,000 troops in a place called Vietnam , most of which were under the age of twenty . And most of which were carrying fully automatic , M-16 , SKS , and AK-47 Assualt rifles . And some carried S&W .38's , Colt 45 auto's , and some even 9mm semi-auto's . Meanwhile ; these same "Pols" were surrounded by their phalanxes of armed guards everywhere they went , as they still are today . Anybody see even a little Hypocrisy here ? The anti-gunners , and the members of ONE party have one thing in common , in almost every area of American life . "RULES for THEE", but NOT for ME" . While that Party's Senators and Congress people carry illegal , unregistered handguns to the floor of the Chamber . This will ; hopefully go to SCOTUS , where it will be resolved "EQUITABLY" . Can anyone say 4th Amendment ? You're old enough to put on the uniform , you're old enough to own a handgun . Or you shouldn't be old enough to put on the uniform , either !

@Adam in WI difficult to say what is the “true” age of majority.

I don't have a good answer either. My feelings are: either you're a responsible adult free to enjoy all your liberties, or you're not. I'm sure we've all met plenty of 18 year olds who can do more damage with their souped up oil burners than the next 17 year old will ever do with a firearm. Where is the line drawn?

I think the handguns are fine for 18 year olds. I sold firearms for quite awhile and there were plenty of young people I felt more comfortable with than older adults.

18 year old drinking age is touchy for me. I’m a teacher and I can’t imagine seeing some of the seniors in high school at a bar while they’re still going to school. Yeah I know it’d be there right at that point but they’re still just babies at that age.

Maybe make it legal to purchase alcohol in a restaurant or off sale but they can’t go to a bar/club until 21?

Think that would fall under the caveat of : Parent orders drink , and then gives the 18 - 19 - 20 year old the beverage . Guess the parent could then be charged with "Contributing" to the delinquency of a minor , if some pious DA wanted to push it . But you also enter into that realm of Parental Rights over State Law . Kind of like the games they're trying to play over CRT and Mandatory Vaccination policies . And those issues will also both be resolved in the Courts , eventually .

I thought politics where frowned on ? By the way I do agree if you can carry to defend our country then by all means

If you're old enough to fight for your Country, you are old enough to consume alcohol and purchase a handgun. In Wisconsin you can consume an alcoholic beverage if accompanied by a parent.
