Uncle Ted

A friend turned me on to a video made by Ted Nugent early yesterday morning. It is on his Facebook page. Click onto videos, the top left video. If you are not a fan of NUGE, you won't like it. If you are, it is awesome.

For all of you who never took the opportunity offered to serve your country, Ted Nugent was interviewed by Rolling Stone in the late sixties. He told, in detail of his successful plan to achieve 4F status. He went on a Twinkies and Pepsi diet for four weeks, and did not bathe or change any of his clothes, including underwear. It got him the 4F deferment he coveted. The reason I remember it so vividly is because I was attached to Ly Tin Advisory Team 17, running night ambushes with a squad of Marines for the last five months of 1969. We made small arms contact with VC and the occasional NVA group six nights out of seven on average. Never went three days, over a five month period without being shot at by enemy soldiers I was close enough to to see eye to eye. One of their people (Marine Cap Platoon) ended up in 27th Surg in Chu Lai with shrapnel wounds for a couple days and brought the magazine back with him. I saw three of those young men die from small arms fire during that time.

jds holler, neither do I know yours. So you can compare me to Ted, I joined the Army in spring of 1968, went thru Paratrooper and Ranger Training, and served in RVN from August 3rd of 1969 thru September 11th of 1971.

NOTE: Jane Fonda is making exercise videos for fat middle-aged women these days. You probably never saw the picture of her sitting behind an anti-aircraft gun in Hanoi circa 1969-70. Most of the anti-RVN War leaders are respectable upper-middle class Yuppie types today. Abbie Hoffman is/was a stock broker.

Do your homework on Ted. He likely developed a conscience about five years after the war ended, when he saw that crap he espoused was no longer a help to selling records.

First of all, it is Veteran's day and I thank you sincerely for your service to America! Regarding Ted, I have no knowledge of your statements. They may very well be true. I believe in second chances. I've made my share of mistakes. Still do make some, I'm human. I think Ted has atoned for what you say he did. I certainly have seen the photos of Hanoi Jane. I lived those times. Unlike Ted, she has never been sorry for her actions. John Kerry was in active duty during Vietnam also. I would never consider thanking Kerry for his service. IMHO both Fonda and Kerry committed treason. I'll continue to support Ted.

Are You aware they finally admitted that the gulf of tonkin was a total lie and fabrication, and was the excuse they were looking for to dive into that war. So if you want to point fingers LBJ and his cohorts are responsible for the 55 thou KIA and over 150K wounded all based on a false flag.

I would never believe what I read in Rolling Stone. It is about as bad as the National Enquirer. They print things to sell papers and make money. They don't care if it is the truth or not. I am not saying it didn't happen but I don't know if I would believe that source. By the way THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE on Veterans day. Matt

Thanks for your service!

Good morning! I'm back, and want to say a few things. Idaho Sharpshooter, I simply meant to defend Nugent, and don't mean to offend you. Sounds like you served bravely in a very dicey situation, in what we know was a very unpopular war.

I'm also from that era, although a little younger than you; I became eligible for the draft just when they did away with the draft. And no I didn't volunteer for service even when I could have.

Among my friends and fellows in our general age group, I know many who served as you did, and many who didn't. None of these guys are "GREAT" just because they served, and none of them are "pieces of crap" just because they didn't.

This is Veterans Day, and I'd like to wish you a good one. I do admire you and guys like you for what you did, and the experience that you had. In that department, I'll never match you. I'm not even on the scoreboard.

Our world has twisted a bunch of times since that war and those times, and most of us who are still alive could be defined and judged by many things since then. I think that Nugent has done a great job of standing up for patriotism, values, constitutional rights, guns, hunting, sobriety, God --- oh yeah, kick-ass guitar licks --

I guess I'd just like to say that just as I thank you for your service, I'd also like to thank him for his. jd

It was another Democrat lie. The Democrats labeled Goldwater a war monger and LBJ was elected. He ramped up the war and according to guys I know that fought there, the US government tied their hands. To a man that I have talked to, we could have won that conflict. Thousands of our young men killed over LBJ'S lies.

We entered into that mistake due to our "leaders" who exaggerated the influence of communism, and totally underestimated the power of nationalism! I re-upped there twice. I assure you, my hands were not tied.

Thanks for your posts, pro or con. It is one of the reasons young men and women in this country enlist in the military, and go off to fight wars in other countries. We would prefer not to fight them here on American soil.

The interview pretty much covers the history of Ted Nugent. I would like to believe that he realized he was wrong, and is atoning for it. Yes, he does a lot of good for disabled veterans. He can not erase his actions in the past.

It's easy to forgive, and we should. However, we don't forget. Forcing someone else to take your place and sacrifice their life so that you can hammer a guitar and pocket millions of dollars, is unacceptable.

Don't have to like the Nuge but you can't say he's wrong. Truth hurts and most dont like pain.
Wrong or right, the truth is, he's a coward, and has proven that fact. Those who have never served in any branch of our military will never understand that. Ted Nugent is a spineless coward. Like the Don Robey song…. "I pity the fool".

Now there ya go again with that Tourette's Syndrome. Millions of folks are successfully medicated for that condition, and there's simply no reason to believe that it wouldn't help you. I'll bet you would be amazed with how it would improve your interaction with other humans. Oughta check with the VA. jd
