Unburned Powder?

I was reloading some 223 cases yesterday and when I was cleaning them up, tapping them on the necks flecks of powder was coming out. This was burnt powder but it was coming out. I have never seen this before. I loaded these 10/24 and fired them mid November. It was a cool day and they didn't shoot very well. I remember. My records show 25.5 grs of H4895, 55gr. Horn. Sp. and CCI-BR primers. Was this a temperature event.I don't know. R

FWIW, H4895 is a Hodgdons "Extreme" powder and sposta be temp insensitive.

25.5grns in a 223 would have been a near max and compressed load, I wonder is the compressed powder is/was the issue?

Sooooooooo, I guess there was a lot powder in the case and it didn't all burn and thats it ? OK Riverlife

i run 25.5 gn of H4895 with sierra 55 gn blitz #1345 and a rem 7 1/2 primer. it's not a compressed load. also not near max load acording to hodgdons site.

i never had burnt powder left in the case. are you sure it was powder and not something else?

Rocketron, thanks for responding. If it is not powder residue, what could it be? The casings were only loaded twice. I will be shooting the remainder of that load batch soon, so I will see if they are the same after firing. Riverlife

it happens....i've found it pays to look at as may books/sites as possible for load info. i think the speer book has 25.5 as a max load for H4895. lump all the info in a pile and start in the middle.
