Unbelievable deal on 50-gr Speer TNT

yep... PV has them for $132/K +ship. I did a double take when I saw $69. :-O. I ordered 2k yesterday on principal alone.

I have a theory - stay with me on this - that Speer are about to discontinue the TNT line. And replace them with <drum roll> the existing TNT Green line.

"Do you think anyone would buy that story, Frankie?"
"Well, it's just wild enough, Charlie, ... You never know."

Who ever bought Wideners out recently, also changed there policy and will not ship to mass anymore, even though it is not illegal to do so. To bad I use to get a lot of stuff from them. Thanks for nothing.

I depends on how they're shipping, USPS or UPS. Shipping cost has gone thru the roof. The cost of the shipping alone isn't bad until they start tacking on residential charges, extra charge for rural etc. Quite often the additions equal more than the starting freight charge. I have shipped residential orders that cost me way over $19. And bit the bullet on part of it.

Ah yes, the shipping charges. USPS gets media coverage for lowering a first class letter stamp 2 pennies. Prior to that they raised the online fee for a SFR box by more than a buck and a half. Add to that UPS and others raising prices substantially when gas prices hovered around 4 bucks. Have you noticed any decreases since the price of gas dropped by half? Same old, same old, hose the consumer til he bleeds out his nose. What ever became of an honest price based on the cost of production with a reasonable profit margin tacked on?

Just ordered 3K. .076 per delivered is pretty hard to pass up and they shoot well in a number of my varminters.

Thanks for the heads up brians

Define "reasonable". And who gets to define it for us? (Please don't say The Government.)

Therein lies the rub. If the shipping market is a free market, competition will have its effect. But if demand is high, prices may rise. Incidentally, even at $4 the gallon, gas was still cheap - historically, adjusted for inflation of course. (No, I'm not an economist. But I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.)

how are the speer TNT's in terms of Bullet blow up at 4000+ velocities? Also how is the red mist effect and accuracy vs the vmax

But shipping was $19 for one box!

That means little without knowing the weight.

But let's work the problem backwards. If I bought a single box of 100 today from a very popular vendor, the shipping would be ~$10, so ...

Find me a more explosive bullet. That's what they're known for. But they're also accurate, and have always been a bargain compared to the ubiquitous plastic tipped bullets. Personally, in lightweight bullets I prefer a flat base, not a boat tail. In lightweight tipped bullets, I appreciate there's flat-based versions of V-max and Varmageddon available.

To be fair, TNTs may not hold together at 3800+ velocity. You need to try them in your barrel. Slower twist rate, (e.g. 14 twist 22-250) through a good bore, they can be ok.

Surely you jest when you infer that I would support having the goverment set the price. The problem is that competition no longer seems to set some prices. There are many items that we absolutely have to have and the companies that provide these things know it. They use contrived shortages, collusion, you name it.

I just asked, seriously, what's "reasonable"?

Collusion and "price fixing" are illegal, and that's a serious accusation, which is usually unfounded. For one thing, it gives way too much credit to the parties involved, i.e. that they are smart enough and coordinated enough to actually attempt it, much less pull it off and get away with it. It's one thing (and legal) to see what others are charging and adjust your prices accordingly, but quite another to conspire with competitors to mutually fix prices. I don't believe that's happening here. And "contrived shortages" are not a necessarily a sin, a producer has the right to cut back production when there's an economic incentive to do so, or to divert production to certain products for which there is a higher demand and profit, for example filling military ammo contracts ahead of making consumer products.

Way off topic. Long discussion for another day and forum.
