Ultrasonic case cleaning

Just a short note on case cleaning. Bought a sonic cleaner on e-bay, $26.50 plus shipping.42,000 cps.Holds about simple Mason large mouth canning jar, that is the perfect size for 20 cases of .308 family of cases, and or .280 and it's family cases. The 50/50 mix of distilled water and house hold vinegar......works! Followed by standand dilution of Birchwood-Casey case cleaner. The brass tested was recent fired, same day),a load of cases that I had fired 3 years ago and just put in a bag. Amazing !, did not do anything except deprime, seperate depriming die), load them in the jar, added the mixture, vinegar & water), ran it for 8 min total, rinsed by had,put em' back in the jar with the recommended mix of Birchwood/Casey case cleaned....ran it for 4 min...rinsed with distilled water and air dryed with a modeling heat gun ....The WHOLE case, inside and out, primer pockets included, was as clean as new cases....I can feel good about not puting and carbon or dirt in my dies now.

If you put about a tablespoon of "LemiShine" in that same mixture you will see a marked improvement and you will NOT have to run the birtchwood Casey.

When I anneal brass or have die wax I want to remove I just drop the cases in a beaker of distilled water, a tablespoon of LemiShine, a little lemon juice and a squirt of dish soap and let them soak for about 30 minutes,no ultrasonic). This removes all the discoloration from annealing and the cases come out sparkling. I forgot to tell you that I rinse thoroughly with distilled water.

Try this and you will be a believer

Thanks Raidman for the good advise, I'll try that as well, but "Lemishine" is new to me....what is it and where do I get it?
I like shiny cases as well as ultra-clean ones. Maybe that will make the difference. Again....thanks

Raidman turned me onto the Limishine, I think it works pretty good. I got it at Waly*World in the section with the dish soap. Comes in a clear plastic bottle, the product is white or off white crystals. I forget exactly what color the label is, white & green I think.

Thanks "mmcauliffe" for the info on Lemishine..I'll try some today on some of my older 30-30 brass.I have a friend who's son is just started going deer hunting with his dad, and has a 30-30 bolt gun. I had loads of 30-30 brass I saved for sometime, and now found a use for.Making up some ammo for his hunting will be a treat for me.I'll let you know how the cleaner works for me.

I tried it on some old AR brass. Very impressive! I think it works better than Citranox and is readily available at the grocery store! Thank you for the advise!

I have just tried the cleaning process above and like it a lot. My question is how are some of the ways you dry the brass.
THANKS
JDY

JDY...the method I use to dry is same as a hair dryer, but it is a heat gun I use for RC aircraft building, made to seal monocote covering...about 20.00 in a hobby shop and is temp controlable. Works like a charm. I also found the Lemishine at Walmart, I'll take the advice above and add it to my Vinegar & water and give it a try too.

For those of you unable to locate Lemi-Shine at Walmart, like us Shooters in Alaska, Here`s the address; www.envirocontech.com or Phone at,888)336-2582. They market 6 packs of the product for $25,or 8 packs for $33,so the cost is very cheap compared to Birchwood Casey Case cleaner. The very nice lady that took my order,Shannon, was more than helpful in arranging shipping and answering e-mails. Lemi-shine is designed to remove hard water deposits, lime scale, etc. It`s very economical also compared to other products used with & without Ultrasonic cleaners. You can even buy it in 5 gallon bucket quantities. Nice folks to deal with, they are very helpful.Might be an alternative to those having a hard time finding Birchwood Casey case cleaner. They have alternative cleaning products as well, besides "Lemi-Shine"
