ultra sonic cleaner for a bolt

I bought a used 284 and have pulled the firing pin, extractor and plunger out. They were filthy dirty, caked with gunk. cleaned them the best I could with a pick and brush with solution but in the bolt body has some grease inside that just keeps coming. So I have ultra sonic cleaner and solution for brass. can I just use that to clean the bolt and how long should I run it? thanks
Mike

I would personally wrap the bolt in cloth or something like neoprene if you are laying it in a metal basket. I dropped a disassembled rimfire suppressor in my ultrasonic cleaner and it rubbed the finish off of areas where it made contact. My unit has a metal basket and the ultrasonic waves appear to have vibrated the metal basket and the suppressor tube together. I know it wasn't the cleaner - I was using what they recommended.

Try a 50-50 solution of Ballistol and water -- Ive used it for cleaning complete .45 lowers and other misc. pistol/rifle parts. Also try your Ultrsonic for brass with Lymans cleaner , I run 50 6BRA at a time and dry with a heat gun - wife does'nt let me use the oven !

Some good tips here. Dawn and hot water works good enough.Just oil and a small amount of litho grease will do ya.

I seen people use a glass pan in the bottom so it does not sit on the bottom of the tank, also it transfers the waves efficiently.

I use Simple Green Concentrate (4÷1). Putting the parts in a zip lock bag with the solution and putting the baggie in the water really helps. Pre clean the greasy stuff with brake clean.

I use Dawn ; and hot water to clean gun parts / Bolts , after dis-assembly . My Ultra-sonic has a heater , so I turn it up to full , and run it for thirty minutes . After cleaning , I blow the parts of with low pressure air line , and spray with a silicone spray . Set them aside for a hour or so and then wipe down with a clean shop rag . Lube points get a small amount of a mixture I made up of ATF and white Lithium grease . For those who aren't aware , ATF has jojoba oil in it and one of the slickest lubricants on the planet .

Bolt guns require attention, especially if used in sub zero winter temps. I have had friends show up with new rifles, hunting in -0 temps, experience light primer strikes. Factory applied grease(firing spring and pin lube) gets stiff. I remove all the factory grease inside bolts, lube(lightly) with -50 rated. Don't forget the back of the lugs.
