ultra lite hunting stock

Who makes a really good quality ultra light weight composite hunting stock for a remington short action build? If you knew the weights and prices it would be great help. I am trying to help a handicap friend of mine.

Manners has a 90% Carbon stock, I had one and it was indeed very light. I believe it was just over $400

HS Precision. It has an aluminum bedding block. I would check with them online to see their models. I owned a Remington .223 PPS, and loved the HS composite stock, but didn't like the palm swell. I would Google "rifle stocks." You can pull up a lot of current info there. Make sure you find out what the weight of the stock is. The laminates are nice, but may weigh more than the original wood stocks.

Brown Precision (I hope that's the correct name) made stocks that were supposed to be light weight, but they are pricey.

Brown precision makes a really nice talk that weighs 1 pound it's called a Kevlar pounder. I paid 400 dollars for mine about 6 years ago and had to finish it myself it turned out alright but it's a lot of work. Believe lone wolf stocks makes 2 stocks 1 weighs 12 ounces the other 1 way 16 ounces I don't have any experience with the stocks some say they're good some say they're are a little on the weak side.

H-S are far from a true lightweight stock. With the bedding blocks, weights are around the 36 ounce range, even in the sporters.

McMillan make a dandy, with almost every model in their lineup available with "Edge" fill, which will shave 8 ounces or more off, depending on the model.

I have a McM Classic in Edge fill for a 700 S/A, and it weighs a hair over 21 ounces. They're around $550.00 or so, ready to bolt in.

Mine may be on the market here shortly........

There is a stockmaker in my hometown who makes a carbon fiber/kevlar stock for a lightweight sporter. His sporter builds come out at 4.5 lbs.

Don't forget about these fine people: http://bellandcarlson.com/

My nephew has one of these stocks on his liteweight .243 700 and is worth a look. Specifically the carbalite series.

High Tech stocks, maybe not considered "ultra light" compared to some of the others listed, but at 21 oz. for the SA Sheep Hunter, they are pretty light. Oh, and at $252.00, not too heavy on the wallet either.

I have Mcmillans , Manners , HS, & B&Cs and have started using peoples tupaware take offs ( varmint ) $30 to 50 and then Devcon bed them to my actions so far so good . Nice light stocks with a good recoil pad already on them.

Had a custom light weight 25-06 Tikka LH made by Lone Wolf.not cheap , but I was entirely satisfied by his product. Glass and pillar bedded, shoots cloverleaf @ 100m with the 1st load i tried. worth the money
