ultra-light stocks

I'm wanting to build an ultra-light big game rifle. Wondering what all the stock options are out there for long and short 700 actions? I'd like to stay at 24 ounces or less. What are your favorites?

Gunamonth, yeah I know about the edge but was looking for more choices because like you said, the price tag is . Doing some searching, I found the Lone Wolf at something like 16oz. Anyone used one of these and if so how much are they?

Lone wolf or Rifles Inc. for super light stocks...not sure if Lex at Rifles Inc sells only stocks.

Check with Mel Forbes,?) at Ultra Lite Arms too.

I am thinking about getting a high tech specialties stock. 18 ounces and runs $250 or so. They have a website. www.hightech-specialties.com

I have 2 Brown Precision "Pounder" stocks, believe they are kevlar? & glass mix. 1 is for a 30-06 the other a 375h&h.Both I have had since the early 80's and completely happy with them

I have a bell and carlson medalist stock that is the same as the remington titanium factory at about 19 ounces for $ 195. They do not list it in the catalog, but give them a call and they will provide the #.

Don't forget Robertson Composites. You get them completly finished, no bondo, no sandpaper and no paint needed. Any of the sporters can be done it this weight range.

Ian: is your website completly updated with all the diffrent stocks to choose from?

And $230 is a bargain for the quality Robertson composites puts out!!

No, our web site sucks. We have a lot of stuff not up and I don't have time to find someone to do it that isn't trying to retire by 25. If you know what you want please ask.

Tom Manners has released a new Carbon Fiber Tactical stock that looks good.

He also has an ultra-light all-carbon/composite hunting stock that should be good also.

I've been looking at the Manners stocks on the Internet. Has anyone out there had any experience with them? Their delivery time is much shorter that McMillan and the price is good as well.
Thanks, shcal.

Tightneck,

I am in the process of building a 300WSM on a High Tech,Bansner) stock. My action is a Montana 1999 short action, and the stock is 20 oz. They do of course make stocks for Remington 700's.

I am very impressed with my stock. It is very slim and nicely contoured through the pistol grip. I would definately recommend one for anybody looking to build a lightweight hunting rifle. My total rifle weight should be around 7 - 7.5 pounds which I think is an appropriate weight for a 300 magnum.

just my 0.2 cents.

Regards,

Michael.

I've pretty much decided to go with a High Tech sheep hunter stock. I can't stand anything but a classic style stock on a big game rifle so that limits the options. With a little work the high tech is a nice looking stock that is pretty cheap really. I'm going to call Robertson's however to see what their options are. They make really nice stocks but I am picky as to what I want in weight, style and of course $$$:D.
