UBR Unlimited Rifle

Well fellas !! What can I get away with ?? After searching forum
threads and the UBR site, It was apparent about classes and weights.
13.5 lbs and a max of stock width seemed to be the requirement, but
one. So how unlimited is unlimited ?? ...... Early in the year I did a
meet and greet with Jeff Gates to get some schooling on what they
were doing, and see the type of target. Now I'm a speed steel kind of
guy, and if anyone is familiar with Ridgway's VBR, thats my general
type of shooting. Most my rifles are on the hefty side with I prefer for
testing my wild cats. I do shoot mainly on a 2 piece rest but I noticed
in the UBR rules, unlimited can be a single unit !! Sounds like more
tinkering on my part out in the shop if I pursue this. So if any guidance
in this area is available for what some are doing in the unlimited arena,
It will all be welcome......Fuj

Equipment wise, UBR Unlimited is "run what ya brung", 30 cal or less.

I shoot a 17 lb. 30 BR.
Two of mine are at that weight, and one is set to add
shot to get to 21 lbs. How wide of a stock are you using ?
I shoot 4 inch at the fore end. And found nothing definitive
about max width, or as Gunsmithing mentioned, run what
ya brung.

This idea of being able to use a one piece rest has me
getting my engineering on !! Like I say; never let a bad idea
go to waste.

Mine is a IBS light gun with a 30 BR barrels to shoot UBR. 3" fore arm.

I have guns that fit IBS Long Range requirements. All but one are under 17 pounds with 28-30" barrels on them and all have 4" flat bottom stocks.
I have been told by our local UBR MD that these would be legal for UBR UL class matches.
I notice the rules are specific on stock fore arm width in all classes except UL. The weight requirement also seems to vanish for UL.
I've yet to shoot any and the nearest match has been mostly canceled due to COVID concerns.

You can shoot a rail, if you want...and I've been at UBR matches where that was done.

I might not be the smartest guy, but I've been shooting UBR since its inception. The premise is mostly two things.. caliber neutral scoring and a class for anyone that wants to shoot, from a factory rifle to a rail or whatever you can dream up, as long as it's 30 cal or less...UBR has a class for you. Come shoot!

Fuj....hope to see you this year at Anderson Creek. Our UBR style matches (Our sandbox our rules ) do not allow 1 piece rests, just so you know.We will have our first 200 yd winter shoot Jan 9 at 11 am. 20 shots for score plus an optional 5 shot group side match with no sighters in the group match. Unlimited sighters on the 4 ibs score targets. Food.

Make that good food!
Oh, and there's the match...
Was at the range trying to get ready for the 9th.
11 seems kinda late. Winter hours? Lol

Might bring a surprise rifle...

I did'nt think a one piece rest would be allowed at your shoots.
What I have planned though is a simple extension to use for
testing then slide it off to be legal.....Now how about muzzle
brakes at your shoots?? I have one barrel that has a Harrels
Tuner with spiral brake......As for getting to some matches ??
Weather will dictate that. That's a good hike from Erie, and
were still a bit buried up here from the Christmas storm.

You can get away with anything but winning! Win once or twice and you'll get kicked to the curb! LOL o_O:cool::confused: Looking forward to see what ya bring!
EDIT: I have no personal experience with this (winning) so I'm one of the "good 'ol boys!" LOL

Build a <13.5# rifle and shoot both classes with the same rifle. I've shot a lot of UBR and never seen any advantage to a heavy weight rifle.
The heavier gun will always have the advantage in varied
situations, but I'm not building a heavy gun. My purpose for
this thread is to find out what I have that will fit somewhere.
My testing rifle for my wild cat ammo falls more inline with
the 17lb. Ridgway heavy, and about the only thing useable
at this time. For me it would be more like a test and tune day.

Jeff......I read your posting about a using an IBS target.
What size 200 yard bulleye compared to a UBR target are
we talking about ?? Or should I ask what size is the 5 ring
LOL......

Weather up here in Erie is moderating and looks like a decent
but chilly stretch into the weekend. I went out to our range
yesterday and just the 100 yard range was useable. I could
snow shoe it out to the longer ranges and plant targets but the
fog covering the upper range was a big "NADA"

Shooting a 30BR vs a 6PPC and I like a heaver gun, that is just me, I'm a wuss and kind of like my shoulder to be in the same place. but in the same breath I've used one gun to shoot both classes, just don't do it any more after a ladder crashed me to the ground on my right shoulder (still hurts).
