UBR- Two Brothers Rifle Range 3/2/19

Today, March 2 2019 we shot our last match at Two Brothers Rifle Range. Many thanks and much appreciation to Jimmy Brady for sharing his range with us for the past two years we have been without a home range. Next month we expect to hold our first match at the new Dry Branch Rifle Range in Dixon Springs TN.

The morning began with the temp in the upper 30's and a heavy cloud cover. The winds were light and switchy all day with the temp not going much past 40º. 100 yards was tough for some reason and only a few figured it out. Alvin Sears had the high score with a 260 in Custom. When we moved to 200 things improved, but I really can't say why. Ten of the eighteen rifles finished with scores of 500 or better. Murray Gilbert got his first Custom Class win with a 507 tying his buddy Jeff Breeden who picked up the win in Modified Class. Rick Fox recovered from a bad 100 to slip by Jr Rigsby with a win in Unlimited and a 505.

We do hope many of you will choose to join us at the new range in April. We have a 42 bench range and will be using 28 of them for competition. You can find it on your GPS at 175 Dry Branch Rd, Dixon Springs TN. The match will be held on April 6th and will start at 9:00 AM. Match fee is $30 for one rifle and $50 for two. The fee includes lunch and drinks all day. I will send out another notice the week before the match to remind you.

Scores are attached.

Do you plan anything besides benchrest for rifle matches

I have considered possibly shooting a group match or two, but with all the work at the new range and requiring a moving backer system for that, I just don't see it happening anytime soon. However, to draw interest in new club members I'm thinking of having some kind of fun shoot similar to the Bluegrass Balloon Bust held in Buck Creek Ky every spring. It was this match that got me interested in precision shooting and benchrest. We have reached an interesting place with UBR in TN and KY. There is no way the current participants can shoot every match that is available to us. Beginning in April, there will be three matches within driving distance for me on the 3rd Saturday. Obviously, I can't make them all. The only way these new ranges will be able to hold viable matches will be to recruit new shooters. I tend to think a fun match is one way to do that. I'll probably try and work with that later this summer.

We will only have a max of 300 yds/meters for competition, so that rules out long range. There will be some military prone matches held at Dry Branch, but I have nothing to do that that or the rimfire matches. If you have an interst in either of these PM me and I'll put you in touch with the match directors.

Was there some horizontal in your load or was it a moving wind flag? ;);):D

A friend shooting beside me last fall did the same thing but the resulting score he got was MUCH worse than yours. He said he did it on purpose 'cause it lied to him.

Lastly, did Mike fix it on the spot?? ;) WD

Lol! I offered. The sad part is I brought them to him that morning. He broke them in all wrong! Lol!

It's all good.....I hadn't shot any score targets over any flags in 9 months and I knew goin in I would screw something up and I did...I am just glad I stayed and figured out why I had shots all over ..

The 1st 4 or 5 in the sighter period has me thinking I had something major broke on my rifle or scope....

Now when I get that flag out I will make sure it ain't to dang high..
