U25 F-Class World Championships

We heard back from ICFRA today that council had approved the motion put forward by the DCRA to include a U25 Individual World Championship as part of the upcoming 2017 Worlds at Connaught.

More details to follow, but thanks to all who provided advice and support of this initiative; we are really looking forward to making the 2017 Worlds a family event!

Scotty, not really sure what this means. Could you describe this?

What this basically means is that in 2017 we will be able to officially recognize individual U25 World Champions in F-TR and F-Open. In previous years they have recognized "high Junior" but were not permitted to bestow the title of World Champion. By approving this motion ICFRA has authorized the creation of a "new" event, the U25 World Individual F-Class World Championships, which can be competed jointly or separately from the FCWC going forward.

In 2017 we will be shooting the U25 concurrently with the "regular" FCWC, and at the the end of the three days we will be awarding the titles of F-TR and F-Open U25 World Champions. The only catch is that there is a minimum entry threshold in each class of 10 competitors. My hope is that by getting the word out early we can give people enough time to think it over, and hopefully make the choice that the first ever U25 World Championships is something they really want to be a part of.

Cheers,

Scott

Hi Scott, that is great to hear. We were on the fence about making the long/expensive journey to Canada, but this certainly makes it a lot more interesting as a family vacation. We've got two shooting teenagers and will look into the travel options!

Way to go ScotttB... that will certainly help bring new blood into the sport.

And keep us old farts from being embarrassed when the kids "kick our butts" :-)

Just remember to put their scores on another page.

R U going to squad them all together or seed them in between other older shooters, the reason I ask is there may be about 50% of the competitors who would prefer to not have a junior next to them.

There have been a few great Juniors I have shot with however I must say there are a couple I would not want to shoot with on a mound again. A lot of competitors have travelled a long ways to shoot and compete and it may be something to consider

Jefferson,

I had not planned on segregating the U25s from the other competitors for a few reasons:

1) Most of them would likely be there anyway so it really wouldn't accomplish anything
2) We all have shooters that we don't necessarily want to be squadded with for reasons of personality, style, etc. As you know we shoot pairs here and that, for better or worse, is just part of the game.
3) One of the reasons to do this was to help grow this sport, and I can't think of a better way to do that than to give younger shooters an opportunity to shoot with the best in the World. According to ICFRA rules, non-team members must demonstrate that they are up to the standard of a World Championships. Given the time/costs involved I would imagine that we won't be seeing many "new" shooters at the FCWC.
4) Our systems are not really set up to segregate a group, and as a matter of policy DCRA does not do that.

With all that said, these are just my personal thoughts on the matter, and I will certainly put the question to the members of the organizing committee so we can make a decision.

Cheers,

Scott

A U25 competitor shooting at that level may teach you something with their young eyes.

I shoot in Phoenix the young Harris, Hayes and Bramley bunch. They will put one on you quickly. They also provide great service in the pits. Always great to shoot with any of them

I had a chance to shoot with the young eagles this year at Perry in the world long range championship. Very nice young adults. Most out shot me. I was amazed by their talents and ability. 20 years ago, I was a junior at camp perry. I'm glad I wasn't shunned.

Something to keep in mind ...
Young does NOT mean inexperienced or incapable.
Old ....has it's own problems :-)
Glad to hear Scott , the sport continues to grow!!
See you in a couple months.

I have most certainly been P&*^ssed off when stuck with an air head teenager scoring for me while checking his facebook and texting his girlfriend while at a small prize shoot. I would think though that any U25s attending the FCWC will be serious and experienced enough to fit in with us old farts when they get to the big game.

this exactly.the world championships are no place to have to babysit.also seeding is very important in pair fire. Im not saying all the juniors but some will not belong seeded with the main group for fairness.

Well, if that's the case, then seed by classification. There are plenty of non-juniors that will be just as bad.
