Twist and .30-06 AI.

I have a long, heavy barrel in .308 Winchester. It is 29" long with a 1:12 twist.
I wanted to shoot at longer ranges, and think about reaming it up to .30-06AI, with Sierras 190 grs HPBT in mind. Will that work in that twist?

You can shoot 190's with that twist but I wouldn't go any heavier.

i have a .30-06AI with a 24"bbl 1-11tw and it shoots the 190SMK and really likes the 200SMK.it did stabalize the 200SMK to 1200yds,velocity was 2700fps.

My main .30 caliber barrel is a Lilja in a 1 in 12 twist. The reason I picked that twist is because I never shoot over the 180 to 190 grain bullets in the 30-06 chambering. I think the 1 in 11 is the perfect twist, but only in a cut rifled barrel. Most button barrels will not offer you a 1 in 11 twist.

The plus side to the 1 in 12 twist is does well with lighter weight bullets in the 30-06. Works vary well with the 155 grain bullet. It really shines with the 168 grain bullets.

I shoot 185 Bergers in my 1/12" bbl and they beat the Sierra 190's handily in the wind and hit higher at long-range. Consider the 155 Lapua's also. You can get around 3200 fps and they are no slouch either.
