Does anyone make a longer 6" drop tube funnel powder die, i have made several in the past with old seating dies and funnels. After a while they seem to catch some kernels for one reason or another. I have seen the dillon but the drop tube isn't there.

the press is a Redding T7, loading for the all time favorite 308win.

If any of the machinist on the site want to make me one for a small fee that would be great.

I made this for my Dillon press, should work in the Redding T7 with a Dillon powder die and the proper internal powder funnel insert for 308. It's a repurposed MTM Universal funnel and drop tube.

You would need a Dillon powder die, then the Dillon insert for the 308 case. They call the insert a "powder funnel", it rides up and down inside the generic powder die sitting on top of the case neck mouth. Once you have the die set, measure the depth of the inner funnel and custom fit the MTM drop tube into the top of the powder die. I've got mine set so that it just touches the top of the insert at the top of the press stroke. I modified the MTM drop tube by cutting off the adapter fitting at the narrowest point, taping/masking it off at the correct depth I wanted, then sanding and hot fitting it into the powder die. I heated the die with a torch then pressed the drop tube in once the fit was close.

As far as catching kernels, it should be trouble free. Every joint interface is a small central hole overlaid over a much larger tapered funnel, with no gaps. There's no way for a kernel to get to a ledge or place where it could get hung up.

Thanks for the info i will check it out and see if i have the parts around

Looks good,

I would need the funnel, drop tube, and the bushing?

I have the one Whidden sells on my Dillon.

Yes, I'm curious how it works as well. Does it use the internal powder funnel or does it sit directly on the case mouth? Is it fixed position or does it ride up and down with the case as you work the press handle?

Rides up an down just like dillon powder dispenser does

Dillon makes a die for the ATG500, Oversize powder die, part no. 16626, I have one of these dies, you have to order the powder funnel with the die, and it locks in with a screw. Also has plastic funnel on top, does not have the long drop tube. $19.95 plus freight, plus the price of whatever size funnel, 308, 270, 0r whatever. Why the long drop tube? Just curious.

I don't have personal experience with the Dillon version of the die, but I've read from others that there can be issues with a kernel or two of powder hanging up on the lip between the top funnel and the internal powder funnel. Scott Harris had a write up on it somewhere...

The other benefit of the tall powder funnel with drop tube is that it gives you a bit of clearance around tall seating dies.

I love my Whidden powder funnel and drop tube 2 years now. When i went to get a drop tube for 30 caliber Whidden tells me they don't make them any more. Wish I could find one in 30 Cal!!!
