Turning to form a false shoulder on 6 Dasher brass?

I realize that you turn to fit the chamber, but how much of a shoulder do you form from turning????

If your brass starts out at .012 what would you turn to so you are comfortable with the shoulder strength????

Are you safe at .010 in a .265 chamber???

I hope this makes sense........... :o

IME-you will do better making a false shoulder by expanding the neck to .257 and then partially neck sizing until you can close the bolt with a crush fit. After fire forming with pistol powder, then turn the neck. .010 is fine. Most 6PPC's have .085 neck walls. And I hope THIS makes sense. BTW- there are several ways to skin this cat. This is just the way that worked well for me.

YMMV,

Phil -

I advise against doing a partial neck turning. I have seen them turn into a tapered neck near the junction after a few firings, that can really mess with bullet hold and bullet release.
Buy cutting them to the shoulder first, then forming, it blows the cut stop/trouble spot far up in the new improved shoulder eliminating the risks of donuts and/or tapers.

As to how much to cut, personally I like thin necks myself.... the thinner the better !.!.!
