Turkey Invasion

Love to see the wildlife at the bird feeders. Maybe bring a smile in these troubled times. :D

My wife lived on the border of a state park (cuiver river in missouri ) before our marriage. The big roost was a heavily wooded area right across the road. All the turkeys in the river bottoms would winter there. They would come off the roost and land in the field beside the house a handful at a time. We counted 350+ one morning. Incredible site that to see that many in one flock.

We live on the Elkhart River in a wooded area an have seen up to 35 at a time . Our home is 45 ft from the river and we always have deer, turkey, ducks, geese, squirrel, woodchucks, and several others walking the river bank. The wood chucks all become part of the food chain, but I really enjoy the wild life. Getting my gear around and ready for this year's matches and with all the political crap going on I thought this might be a good change of pace.

Thanks , Bob

I live on a creek they call mud creek and I cant believe all the big bucks coming thru with a dozen or better of does and fawns. I have seen turkeys all over macedon ny and fox,and an occasional coyote. It really makes me feel good that they are surviving for another season. Thanks for the pic you posted.

Nice picture of the birds. Saw a huge flock along I 75 returning south from my Georgia hunting camp couple weeks ago. They are neat to see.

One question. What is that white stuff on the ground?

Captain,it is snow, and it helps when you half to track anything that bleeds.LOL

A few months ago a pal & I were out coyote calling & asking ranches for permission.
We pulled into one and had a flock of at least 60-80 wild turkeys in front of us by the house & made it to the creek bottom as the rancher was already coming out for us (he had a driveway bell we saw coming in), we could see by his stance he was going to say NO. I rolled the window down & he stood close to the door so we could not open it & I asked if he had turkeys as we were looking for some.
He said NO he has not seen any....hahahha
As I stuck out my hand to shake his like I always do after he said no to coyotes, he put his in his pockets, I said our thanks anyway.

It seems like the turkey population is booming. I see them almost every time I go out to the hunting grounds. I was out target shooting and plinking last fall and in the middle of shooting 5 turkey just walked out of the woods in front of me. So I took a pic with my phone through the scope. BIRD BRAINS!

There was a big flock of them near my Mom's house in Maine. The damn things would not get out of the driveway. They would stand and look at a Suburban flashing the lights and honking the horn, and saunter away when they felt good and ready. I don't know whether they were stupid or smart because it was not Turkey season.

I believe you can use a car horn as a call for most of them most of the time. They will come out of the brush to gobble at it. GO figure.

Bob, I saw you are on the Elkhart, where are you from? I've kayaked down quite a bit of it. I'm from the Albion area and am seeing flocks of Turkeys around 100. Kind of crazy since 10 years ago they weren't around at all. As a farmer they can do a lot of damage to a corn field so I don't like seeing them around.

Those turkeys would be breakfast, lunch and dinner for the local coyotes.

Farmer was dooming some of the turkeys, know it or not. If they were eating his ducks/chickens Id bet the answer would have been YES, please.

When I was in TX I stopped to pick up pecans once along a highway. I was driving a VW. Aniother VW went by and the driver honked. The turkey farm across the road had couple hundred, outside, fenced in. At the honk everyone gobbled.. I proceeded to honk my horn several times. Each time all responded loudly.
