Turbo action Warning

Edward Manning

Silver $$ Contributor
Good Afternoon Everyone

I just want to give anyone that wants to do business with DiOrio manufacturing. A warning.

Anthony DiOrio will promise a ship date and then will come up with all kinds of excuses why he did not ship your action. I order the action and Tuner in June. At that time he said 6 weeks.

I have email him asking for a honest ship date and he just keeps lying.

I would never order anything from them again.
Just my thoughts

Unfortunately I did
Hopefully you used a CC and can get the charges back. a fellow shooter and friend had the same problem and got a complete rifle from them after finally telling them he would have the CC company charged back what he paid if he didn't get a definite ship date. he shot the rifle yesterday for the first time, he received it a couple months ago. FYI this is his second V3 in the last 2-2-1/2 years I believe.

Same old story..... been going on for years for some.
Guess I was fortunate in that I had an action in about a month 3 years ago ordered thru Jason. Maybe that helped, I don't know.
If he has your components perhaps he can ship them to you to have another gunsmith do the build. Not ideal I know but you'll never be happy with it otherwise at this point.

Ed,
Was this a full rifle build, or just an action and tuner purchase? If it was the latter, there were ways around the delivery issue. Perhaps a moot point now, but maybe good info for others looking to build a Turbo.

When I decided to build a Turbo I never went to DiOrio for the action. With the reputation of that MFG, which has been highly publicized for YEARS, why would I? I 'borrowed' an action from a friend, with the promise to give him an action back. I then ordered an action from my smith AND also ordered an action from Jason Frymier. In the end, the borrowed action turned into a purchased action, as the owner decided to not build a Turbo. Now this was a stroke of luck, but the fact remains, I still had two ordered. Both Jason and my smith had no issues with me canceling my orders and happily kept both orders open with DiOrio. They have both received those actions and they are already sold. Win, win for everyone. Both my smith and Jason told me to order multiple actions when I committed to the build and not worry about it. Sage advice, as a Turbo action is not going to sit around very long! My rifle is now built, took 7 months, but it wasn't because we were waiting on an action. Took that long for 'my turn' in the smith's que' of commitments to other customers, which I knew upfront going into the project.

Now, hopefully this info will help someone else. Is it likely DiOrio will change his tune because you posted on a forum? Not likely, as it has been posted on several forums for years and there has been no change yet. Just my 2 cents........which didn't cost anyone even a penny!

So who is Jason, how do we order thru him, and is he the only way to order a turbo? Is there any place that orders them ahead of time and has some in stock?

That's too funny Dusty!..........stock on a Turbo action? The internet is your friend Dusty. If you had entered Jason Frymier in your search bar, you would see that Jason owns IR5050, a popular RFBR sanctioning body. He also owns CM Sporting Goods in West Virginia and is a FFL. Entering 'Turbo action 4 sale' in your search bar will bring up his website. Jason does order ahead of time, but I'm going to guess almost all of them will be sold before he has a chance to inventory them. Case in point, the one I had ordered from him and canceled is long gone. I'll guarantee he didn't cancel it from DiOrio. At least four of the posters in this thread are sanctioned RFBR shooters, which is where the bulk of Turbo actions end up. They are also used in other disciplines, but I would say most are used on RFBR builds.

Why a Turbo over a 2500x?

I'm honestly asking as I would like to do a build in the future if the budget will allow.

No reason for me at all, other than I wanted to try one. I currently own 5 Stiller action rifles and that's after I just sold one to a new competitor that shoots at the club I co-match direct ARA at. In fact, since I started shooting sanctioned, I have only shot Stiller action rifles.....8 total, save for my first 'starter' IR50/50 Sporter which was a Voelker 581 Remington. That rifle was replaced by a Stiller 2300XS Sporter, also smithed by Voelker. I do not play the SAP vs PAS controversy game. I don't get involved in the other politics about which one is better either. Both actions have shot huge scores and won huge matches. I really like Jerry Stiller as a craftsman and a friend, I really like the smith that did my Turbo for the same reasons. Simple as that!

This is my experience also. I ordered a trigger hanger from him. He said it was in stock and would go out in a couple days as he was doing his taxes. It took several calls and 6 weeks to receive my trigger hanger.

Well, for those that read post #10, no reason at all. I am fully in the Stiller camp, but I do have a recently built rifle on a V3 Turbo action. I will say this from experience, 8 different Stiller actions and still own 5 and shoot both ARA and IR50/50 3-gun. A Stiller action normally needs nothing out of the box to be as good as it can be. A Turbo needs a little love from a smith that knows what that love is. They are also more difficult to get. Again, refer to post #10 and understand that both actions will kill it in Big Time RFBR. Also realize that very few really Big Time RFBR shooters post here. There are a few, but not near as many as those who post here that don't have the experience to post with experienced knowledge. This topic is all relative to experience in the top levels of the game, and the knowledge that does not dispute the value of either action, although some do for some reason. Both actions have continued to win on the highest level of RFBR....period! Hell, a Swinderhurst placed top 10 in the recent ARA Indoor Nationals last week! All need good barrels, good smiths, good ammo, and good drivers......Simple as that.
