I've got my sweet little .20 "Plain Jane" that has caused the demise of several hundred ground squirrels this spring and summer. She's been set up in this 40X rimfire stock that is pretty durned sweet for the bench and even my tri-pod that I usually shoot squirrels from. I've been wanting to do something a little different though for using her as a carry rifle for coyote calling and such.
I've got a few other 700 stocks sitting around including one of the cheap and sleazy Remington Brand tupper-ware type.
I spent a few hours in front of the tube opening up the barrel channel for the #6 sporter contour --Remage Nut Barrel that I got from Pac Nor. The channel was pretty easy, -- the nut region a little more time consuming. For what it's worth, you can fit a #6 in these factory stocks with no problem if you're careful.
With this one being of a more slender design, it is easier an more ergonomic to wrap my hand around the body of the rifle. I especially like being able to stick my thumb through the gap provided by two piece bases.
This rifle spent some time in this stock back when it was a 222, and actually shot very well in it. One thing ya can say about these stocks is "They may be cheap, but they sure are -- cheap."
While I've got the other one off, I may get the gumption to cut out the mag well so that I can make a repeater out of it. Also after practicing on this one, I may convert the spare Boyds Laminate stock that I've got. It would be a lot classier than this sleazy thing. jd
