Tuner

One shooter that I know that does very well uses the tuner that Harrell Precision makes, along with attachments made by others. I would call these folks.

First we need to know is what you are shooting Air rifle 22 rem center fire bench rest. All 3 of those sports are being dominated with tuners. It wont be long and long range will be the same.
I see the 1000yd IBS nationals was won with a tuner on his. Larry

I suppose that I should qualify my answer by saying that it was based on the forum on which it was asked.

If your talking .22 rimfire as the forum section suggests
There's no need to look any farther than a Harrell's tuner I've shot a couple of
State IR 50/50 matches and that's all I see

There is nothing wrong with the Fudd tuners. If you can find one of his later bloop tuners for a good deal you can't go wrong imo. I have 2 RVA's one of which is on my #1 rifle at the moment.

Otherwise, buy a Harrell's.

With the Harrell tuner on an Anschutz 54 match, where did you find the best setting? and how did you arrive there? I have one I am using with a 1411 stock and have found some improvement but I hate to keep burning up very expensive ammunition in these days of short 22lr ammo supply. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hehe Rick....If you are going to shoot competitive benchrest .22 ..... and are worried about having to burn to much ammo .....you might should reconsider your choice of sports...

Yea Rick that's comes with rimfire benchrest competition. You could save some time and just send that rifle to eley and they will test fire all their different lots
And tell you which lot shoots the best. Then you can tune from there not sure of the cost but does save a lot of time and money by the time you test all the different lots of ammo yourself I would say the price isn't all that bad

Later rem6br :)

Big Red,
If you are shooting a Anschutz 54 Match Action (or even a 64 Action for that matter), I imagine you've already figured out which Match Ammo (the expensive stuff) shoots the best in you particular rifle. If not, test before you get to setting your tuner to find what ammo your rifle performs the best with BEFORE mounting the tuner. After extensive reading and testing of Match Ammo, I've found that one rifle's Tuner setting won't necessarily give you the best results due to the likelihood of different harmonics in your barrel compared to another Anschutz rifle, even if the same model. I found (and with help from a few guys shooting custom rigs) that following the instructions that come with the Harrel Tuner will help you obtain the best setting. With each change, I shot 10 rds for each setting and then evaluated the target to see what change was made from the last group. Trust me, you'll see the changes in your groups, but do this testing on a WINDLESS DAY. All in all and as I recall, I shot up about 2 - 3 boxes of ammo to find the sweet setting. And it paid off because my rifle actually outshoot just about every custom rig it competed against.

From what I've seen, about any tuner will work. Guys are using plumbing fixtures, hose clamps, etc., all the way up to the many custom devices. If it has a few ounces of weight that can be incrementally adjusted, it should work. The rest is "appearance".

I have a Hoehn/Harrell's rimfire tuner on my 6 PPC and it works great. Didn't want to thread the end of the barrel and the clamp-on works fine. Ron reamed the clamp to my barrel dimensions and I clamped it on and went to the range where the most infinitesimal adjustment of the tuner can be seen on the target.

I think I have found an answer to my question several posts earlier....the Purdy RX or PRX if you prefer, info can be found here http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=523581 I e-mailed Tony and I am waiting for some additional weights to arrive as my barrel is longer than 25" (27 1/16") and I needed to lengthen the tuner for to fit the formula and tune to the 9th harmonic.

There is a healthy discussion on several forums regarding the PRX, Rimfire Central, World Wide Accuracy, and Rimfire Accuracy to name a few. So happy reading if you are so inclined, it looks to be very promising for the results others have had.
