Tuner question

swd

Silver $$ Contributor
I'm getting ready to put a new F Open rig together and I'm considering a tuner. Does the same tuner setting usually work at both 600 and 1K or will I need to to come up with 2 settings?
Thanks.

It will work at both, same setting. You may have to play with different loads as day warms up. U may also have to tweak settings on different days if adjustable.

I initially tune my tuner at 200 yd. Then I tweek the tune at 600 yd for minimum group size. I then tweek again at 1000 yd . Your 1000 yd tune will work for 600, but not necessarily the 600 yd tune for 1000yd.
You should continuously tweek at both 600 and 1000 during practice and take good records along with temperature and if you can, Density Altitude. From this data base, you can draw a curve and change tune when ever conditions change. If you can't get Density Altitude, just altitude and temp. will do. You will find the adjustments to be small, but important.

YMMV - my experience so far has been one setting to cover from 300 - 1000. I don't play with the setting based on temps etc (FTR) as I don't get unlimited sighters to dial it in, but I make no argument against doing that either.
My context for precision is typically between .5 - .7 moa vertical on any given day based on data from ETs over the season to date. I do have targets at 1000 that show .4 moa vert. I have cleaned (points not x count) 600 and 1000 yrd targets with the one setting.
My setting was chosen from 100yrd load dev.
Basically this is enough for me as its clear that I'm becoming a bigger factor in the precision than the setup.

3081ftr Is absolutely right!

I know I load bullets to 0.015gr on a lab balance with 1mg accuracy, I handle bullets only with surgical gloves, anneal cases and monitor seating force with a measuring press. I group my bullets by base to ogive distance.
Then I carefully characterize my new barrels and attach the tuner and carefully tune at 200, 600 and then 1000yd. I shoot mostly bench rest with 0.7MOA 10 rings and the limiting factor is ALWAYS.....
