Tumbling Bullets...???

My first venture into the land of the 20 cal. today. New Savage 26' BGTV SS 1/12' in 204. Loaded several different loads to get some general crono info and see how this gun will shoot. 6 shots to get the scope where it should be, and then to work.

35 Bergers & 39 Blitz Kings. 3 shot groups, started with a .301 w/Bergers 28.0 IMR 4895, 7 1/2 rem., avg. fps 3836.7 .050 off.

As I went through the loaded rounds with the last 6 Bergers, 3 of them tumbled. Both groups were loaded with H4895 28.0gr One 3 shot group with BR4's and the other 7 1/2 rem. 2 tumbled with the 7 1/2's and one with the BR4's. Avg. fps 3650

I did not clean the gun during this range time, 42 rounds total, speed started to come down and groups started to open up.

Can carbon/copper cause this. I thought the 204 likes it a little dirty. Never tumbled a bullet in 30 years of reloading.

i just went through this w/ a 22-250..i'd bet it's carbon fowled..to tell push a cleaning rod thru the barrel..put on a brush & slowly pull it back..if it's carbon fowled you will feel the drag start to increase.. usually a foot or so in front of the chamber..watch someone say ' dodn't pull a brush back thru '..a brass brush in a steel bore is'nt going to cause damage using it sparingly..you'll need a good carbon cutter..top engine cleaner..bores head 22 carbon remover is what i use..then for copper sweets 7.62..i've had to use jb bore paste in conjunction w/ the afore mention..depends how bad it's fowled
