tula small rifle primers

more then likely this has been asked before But... I'm getting old and a tad forgetful.
Has anyone had any luck with the Tula standard small rifle primers?
I want to know how they hold up particularly under a warm load.
I know the small rifle mags hold up but very little about the standard primer.

I started using them to fire form 6 ppc brass and 6dasher because they are cheap.
My normal fire form loads in both of the above pierced the Tula the cci 400 hold up just fine

There is so much confusion about which Tula/Wolf primer is which that you may not get accurate information. IMO the standard SR (copper cup) are too soft for high performance centerfire calibers. They are great for Hornet family cartridges. Use the SRM (early are nickel plated, late are brass) & don't look back, or shoot reduced loads with the standard SR primer.

yes the newer cup primers do not work as well for SD as the older ones,

for competiiton 6br out to 1000 yards

in my experience, Tula is not Wolf.

earlier this year, i loaded a few thousand cases using Tula small rifle primer and found that about 3-4 per thousand were missing the anvil.

i've had one misfire with wolf small rifle primers out of about 20k shot.

Are you saying the small rifle .223 wont work in say a .223? Mine are KVB223 on the package, are these ok or junk.

My understanding is that the 223 SR primers are a true magnum SR primer, probably similar to a CCI450. Best authority on Tula/Wolf primers is probably Widener's in TN.

Agreed.

KVB223 can be use as 'standard' but may crater / pierce with near full-power loads, particularly in 6.5 Grendel-based cases & 6BR, Lapua's Palma for 308. Better choice is the KVB223REM which reportedly has the standard primer charge but in the magnum- thickness cup. These are what I use with great results in both the Wolf and later Tulammo brand.

True magnum (cup + charge) SR primer is the KVB556.

With the KVB223 (typically copper-colored) watch fired primer condition as you increase loads, particularly when your bolt face has a generous firing pin hole.

spclarks info above agrees with my experience.

I have very limited use with most of the primers made by "Murom", but I do have thousands of KVB556's under the "Wolf" brand and they are extremely hard cupped. They are a good bit harder than cci 450's. These are brass colored ones. I also have a few of the regular small rifle primers under the "PMC" name. They are copper colored and extremely soft. So soft that they flatten on minimum charges.

I've got some of the Wolf SRM primers......I've looked and there is no number on the box or the primer sleeves except for a lot number which looks more like a date than a lot number. The cups are brass colored.

Is there any way I can tell which ones I have?

The Tula vs Wolf primer thing has been talked about, discussed and argued for years on a lot of sites
Here is a link to an earlier discussion of the same.
In my personal experience there is no substitute for the wolf packaged SRM primers. Tula is not the same

Interesting read here on this old page

People will tell you that you can no longer obtain wolf primer they are repackaged as Tula.
Not so Bruno's usually has Wolf in stock

I think the brass-colored cups is the best clue that those are either KVB223M or KVB556M, good for our purposes.

If you have the original case-lot corrugated packaging the product number will be printed on the side somewhere. I'll try to get a pic later today off what's on my shelf then post it here

Thanks for all of the imput from all"
My primers arrived yesterday. I shot some today.
I'm very satisfied with the results of my tests.
They held up well GerryM
