Tuffpac Gun Cases

If you're talking about the torpedo style rolling case, it is a very good design for airline transport. But, if you only have one or two rifles, you need to "cushion" them with other stuff so they don't slide or roll around.

What I like about the design is that is doesn't broadcast "I'm a gun case". People will think you have golf clubs or something for a trade show instead.

The other thing I would do when shipping this is to tape over the buckles on the side:

Received an interesting comment from a Forum member who has dealt with baggage thefts as a law enforcement officer. He notes that having baggage appear to look like golf clubs or a trade show case won't really offer much extra protection from determined thieves. Also he notes that gun cases have a special marker:

"Before retiring a few years ago I was assigned to O'Hare airport in Chicago as a Police Officer. As I remember it, the airlines require Gun cases to be locked, and contents to be declaired. Trade Show cases and Golf Clubs were always "Turning up Missing". As I read what you have written, I get the idea that traveling with the Tuff case would be safer, as golf clubs and trade show cases would not become lost first. This is definately not true. Opportunists abound in the baggage handling areas of airports. I have chased down baggage handlers, when certain items, have conveniently fallen off of the baggage carts before they get to the plane.

Items are X-Rayed now and tagged with a special bar code if they are firearms. Doesn't take long to figure out the bar coding on firearms. Just my observation and opinion.

I would also add that, if traveling by Air, carry on your rangefinder, spotting scope, rifle scope, medication,s), camera, etc. You would be surprised as to the amount of people that carry on jeans and shirts and check expensive items. Better to loose three pairs of jeans than some expensive glass. AND KEEP YOUR HANDS ON YOUR ITEMS BEFORE BOARDING. One of the most often heard comments from theft victims was,'I just put my Computer down for a minute while I was on the phone.' Don't be a VICTIM. Forewarned is forearmed.-- Ron"

Thanks for the tips, Ron!
